Is it possible to lose weight without surgery?

Recommended Posts

I began the pre surgery (RNY) journey on Nov. 22, 2013. I weighed 250# at 5'6". I've been through almost all of my

Program's/Surgeon's preop workup. As of today, I have lost 38# following the mindful eating and other principles of

Bariatric surgery. I fear my Medicare Advantage Plan may deny my surgery. Is it possible to succeed without surgery?

I have tried many, many times to diet and have yoyo'd. I don't want it to happen again. Suggestions?? Should I still

plan for the surgery?? Any feedback would be appreciated!

Wow I have had those same thoughts. I weighed 257 in Oct of 13 now I weigh 235. I still ave my old cravings etc, but I have lost some. I wonder about getting too far also, with the Medicare thing. My nut said not to get below 241' but that was before approval so I'm not sure of anything. I don't think I can do it on my own though

They could deny you up to the day you get weighed in at the hospital. My nurse told me she had to send several patients home because they no longer met the BMI qualifications.

You could probably do it on your own but you would have to commit to the lifetime change. So it won't be another yo yo diet. Best of luck to both of you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
