Hi I am currently awaiting my surgery to be approved by insurance my surgeon is with John Hopkins and they are the best in high risk surgeries which in this case this is why I was referred to them. Im 27 I have lupus, sleep apnea, thyroid and will be on medicine for the rest of my life. With the list of medicine I am on prednisone and my lupus doctor does not want me to come off of it but recommends me getting the sleeve. I know with surgery there is risk and I haven't met one person that was on prednisone during surgery and I hope with this website someone can give me some insight on how you went through it and if you are doing post op. Please respond my surgery is March 28!!! Get this my surgeon hasn't made up her mind if shes doing the sleeve or the band because of the prednisone which isn't making me feel better!

Hello I to have lupus, thyroid, and now addisons from 6 years of taking daily prednisone. I had the Lapband done because I could have it removed if there was a problem. Just personal preference. I was on 10mg daily at the time of my surgery and they gave me a few IV stress doses during the surgery and for the following 24hrs. Please feel free to pm me with any questions. I am also a nurse.

I know this is an old thread, so hope you still check it. I have Lupus and am on 10mg of Prednisone daily and am getting sleeved on 7th June. Would love, love, love to hear from someone else who started their journey on Prednisone and had to continue to take it post op.

I also take CellCept and Plaquenil daily. My rheumatologist told me I can discontinue all of my meds for the week after surgery, except the Prednisone. I will also be tapering the dose down over the next couple of months, hopefully to nothing.

Would love to hear from someone else who was also on these meds and whether or not if affected your weight loss post op. So hope you check this and can help me

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
