Surgery was at 0800 this morning. Slept off some of the anesthesia and feel pretty damn good. I've been up walking around and have neither incision pain nor has pain. Do feel sleepy agin though, maybe time for another nap :)

Finally feeling a little more awake. Still no pain, couple oz's of ice chips. I really want a Popsicle but only because my mouth and throat are dry, not because I'm hungry. So happy I stuck out the preop diet. Days 1&2 are clear liquid, I can't wait for full liquid. Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. Feels good to be on the other side

Try brushing your teeth. I don't know why bit for some reason that helps a whole lot.

Just reporting in, I was expecting tons of gas pain, but so far none. When I asked my sugeon about it he said you shouldn't have any because i got most of it out during surgery. I can advance to full liquids today, but it's very hard as im not hungry at all. Yes I know its necessary to make sure I get all my Protein in so I think I'll attempt a Protein Shake in a little bit. Im just amazed right now. I tried to get chicken broth down last night and could only do a couple of spoonfuls before I was full. I never needed anything for pain so no Constipation for me. All systems are working fine. Picture perfect surgery and recovery so far. Hope everyone else has such an easy time. Thanks for all the support.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
