Different liquids go down differently

Recommended Posts

Ok so I am not sure if this is normal or not but for awhile now I been noticing how some liquids go down easy like Water and tea while others like milk and red juices do not go down. At first they were fine but now I cant drink them.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Congratulations on your weight loss, wow! I am finding the temperatures of different liquids to make such a difference. I really need the warm tea in the AM when my band is tighter vs. cold Water or juice, etc.

What I have noticed is that if my band is feeling a bit tighter milk and thick products like even ice cream though I don't eat much of either will take a bit longer to go through the band. They tend to give me a slimy feeling when they go down but I have always had an issue with dairy like that.

I have bad allergies and the milky products tend to make more (gross factor here) mucus for me. The same I find true for some of the red/cherry flavors. I don't know why but even the additives to Water like Mio don't sit right with me.

I pretty much stick to the Mio sweet tea, Water, or coffee with a touch of Creamer. Our bands can be fickle and what works one day might not the next.

I'm almost at my 1st year bandiversary and the fickle nature of the band is but one of the things I've learned about this thing. In a way, that is a comforting thought, because I know that if even if today I can't eat, say, endive, I can give it a try in a week or so and it will go down fine.

Another things is I kind of know intuitively before I eat/drink something that it won't pass easily. I can't describe how or why I can sense this, but I'm wondering if anyone else just "knows" that a particular food/drink just.won't.go.down without a problem. I'm not talking about known problematic foods, just regular stuff. The other day I was considering strawberries, and I felt my band kind of tightening at the sight of them so I didn't eat them. But I had some tonight for dessert; no problem.

Shel - I have noticed the same thing. And I've learned to trust what my body is instinctively telling me. The band is fickle (good way to describe it), and if I'm getting a twinge of nausea before taking a bite, I walk away. Our bodies are pretty darn smart, and anytime I've tried to push through the clear message, I've regretted it.

I too have some trouble with the different thickness of liquids. ice cream is completely off my list now. it just sits in my pouch and than the slime starts. sometimes if I drink more than my pouch allows it also gets the slime started. so I am just as careful with fluids as I am with solids.

Glad to know I'm not the only one ! I used to drink my Protein Shake in the morning...but it's thick and cold and will not go down ! My coffee doesn't even go down some mornings. I found that drinking my Water room temperature works best for me.
