Pureed Food? Nooooooooo.....

Recommended Posts

I am 2 weeks post op today, and can start pureed foods. I can't even think about it without practically gagging. Has anyone else had this problem? I have to admit that last night I had a small slice of turkey (chewed it until it was pureed in my mouth), and it was fine. This morning I made myself an egg and did the same thing. Is this ok? I just can't stand the thought of pureed stuff. I would almost rather remain on liquids. Am I doing something wrong by eating turkey? I kind of thought it was soft, so it would be easy to chew into a paste. Now I'm wondering if I am doing the wrong thing. Help!

Thanks init! I was feeling like I was a terrible person, and you helped me feel better and not beat myself up! I am doing the Soup thing too, but I take all the Pasta and potato pieces out before I puree it. I am just so SICK of soup! :)

I never pureed anything. I ate tuna salad, refried Beans w/cheese, split pea Soup, bean soup, stuff like that. I tried pureed chicken and just the sight of it made me want to hurl.

I'm about 3 months post op and I never puréed

Anything that easy supposed to be liquid

My dr called that select soft foods (about 5-6 pseudo-solids to choose from) to just soft foods. Nothing with a crunch or that needs a knife to cut. I was primarily on Protein shakes along with those but never had any intention of blending "real" food.

My plan never called for puréed went straight from full liquids to a limited list of soft foods.

I did puree chicken to make chicken salad and tuna for my tuna salad. I was "scared" of the consistency since I have issues with textures but surprisingly, both the chicken and tuna were wonderful and did not hurt my sleeve going down. I no longer have to puree my foods but if there is anything really chunky I want to eat I am going to puree it. The taste doesn't change...its just the consistency.

Google ricotta bake, I've heard people rave about it. I don't remember off the top of my head but it's basically ricotta, cheese and sauce. Perfect for pureed stage and it has lots of Protein

I am 2 1/2 weeks out surgery was 2/26. I am on puréed/ soft foods. I have been enjoying tuna salad just mayo and tuna no celery or onions, cottage cheese, refried Beans etc. however my husband wanted to go out to dinner with friends this weekend. I ate the contents of 2 wedges of a chicken and cheese quesadilla . I chewed till it was a paste like consistency and had no problems. It was also nice to be out with my husband and friends again :)

I read about this recipe last night before bed. I think I dreamt about it! I'm only day 3 post op. And even though my doc does straight to full/puréed, I'm too scared to try it yet. I can't wait to eat that and purée some chilli. And refried Beans. I never, EVER, thought I'd be so excited to purée something. I just want to wait at least a week.

Hi my surgery isn't scheduled until April 8th 2014 but I have been worried about what to eat when I get to the pureed point. The only thing I could think of was tuna fish and maybe eggs ground up very small with the consistency of maybe deviled eggs. I also thought about ground chicken breast and I have been in the grocery store looking for sandwich spread but I haven't been able to find it. I was thinking the sandwich spread would make the ground or pureed chicken taste a little better than just the light mayo. would appreciate any ideas anyone comes up with 4 puree foods but like most of you maybe just chewing it to paste like consistency will work. Lol...

The ricotta bake is absolutely delicious. I made it a couple days before I moved to soft foods. So good. I used the creamy Tomato sauce instead of straight marinara. I'd say that both ways is good. But yeah. Soooo good. Like lasagna without the noodles.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
