mandavander 12 Posted March 9, 2014 So today was bad day, spent the afternoon in the ER with sever lower abdominal pain. After some blood work and a CAT scan I found out I have a kidney stone. Once I was releases I started doing some research online and found out that it is a side effect of bariatric surgery. Anyone else have issues with this? Oh by the way I am 4 weeks post op. 1Day1Life4Now 882 Posted March 10, 2014 I didn't know kidney stones was a side effect of WLS but I did know Gall stones were. I guess it effects both. Sorry you had to go through that. ny2fly 39 Posted March 10, 2014 I never knew either. When I had the surgery my dr automatically does a liver biopsy and based on those results he put me urolosic. It's a medicine that prevents gallstones. I think I spelled it wrong though sorry. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Recycled 2,182 Posted March 10, 2014 I believe the increased risk of kidney stones from bariatric surgery is in reference to gastric bypass. However obesity by itself is a cause for increased risk of the stones. Not drinking enough Water is considered one of the main causes. If you are diagnosed with a stone, it is advisable to be checked out by a Urologist as the size of the stone is extremely important as to the treatment required.
