Are vitamins counted in calorie count?

Recommended Posts

According to my fitness pal, my Vitamins are 50 calories.

I'm supposed to stay under 600 calories. I only just entered my supplements to calculate the calories.

I'm really hoping I don't have to count them. Anybody know?

Anything that you put in your mouth you should track it. It totally counts towards your daily intake.

I am meticulous about tracking on MFP. But, I have never tracked the supplements. My clinic does not require me to track calories (even though I do). I am required to track my Protein grams. I like to know the nutrition that I am getting from the food I am actually eating. Listing the supplements would through that off. I don't believe that if I begin to gain weight or my weight loss stalls it will be due to my Flinstones Complete Vitamins.< /p>

I track my Vitamins -- anything that I chew. My Vitamins and Calcium come to around 50 calories. I do this because I can also see how well I am meeting nutritional goals, too. I don't count them toward my calorie goal, however. For example, if I was limited to 800 calories per day, I would only count food toward that goal.

I got a reply from my NUT. Yep she counts them. I'm starting my 7th week and dr. Recommends 400-600 calories. She looked at my fitness pal and told me I shouldn't go all the way to 600 every day. I'm having difficulty figuring out how to meet 70-80 grams of Protein with 500 calories (+50 calories of supplements). I'm getting tired of shakes, I like my morning shake (premier vanilla with a cup of frozen fruit) but I can only drink 1/2 so, 108 cal, 15 grams protein. The idea and taste of the 2nd 1/2 for a snack makes me nauseous.

I also wish Peanut Butter wasn't on my "allowed" list. I LOVE peanut butter and my pouch likes it too. I've made my own version Thai peanut chicken with baked chicken breast, Jif reduced fat (not reduced enough) crunchy peanut butter and a little Water. Mmm.

I haven't tried PB2 yet, I hope I'll like it so I can stop wanting Jif.

Sorry for rambling...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
