Hi Banders,

I was banded on December 20th, 2013 & has only lost 4 pounds. Why is that? My meals are much smaller than before I was banded, I drink Protein Shakes, & recommended amounts of Water & liquids daily. I get my 2nd fill tomorrow March 10th. I haven't really exercised yet, just a few minutes here & there due to Illinois having a terrible winter (I love to walk) & my house isn't big enough to have a treadmill or any other exercise equipment. I've never been the one to spend my money in a gym membership because they charge too much. I've also noticed that my stomach growls often & I'm gassy & belch a lot. My Dr said he's never had a patient complain about the gas & belching. Besides all of this I feel great. Any suggestions will be helpful...thanks in advance,

Funny, there was recently a whole thread about about belching and ... Tooting. You are definitely not alone.

Are you tracking all of your food and Water intake? Calories, and Protein?

Some of those grumbles you're hearing may be normal gastric sounds and not hunger.

Sounds like you're doing the right thing ... Getting back to your doc.

Hi, gas from the upstairs and the basement is very common with Wls.

I wonder what your dr says about your weight loss thus far. Is it possible for you to purchase for about $10.00 or less a Leslie Sansone walking tape. .?

I also have a little area but I go forward and back.

When I had my lapband on 2/2/10 I walked at first. I know that your temp is very different than mine. But I also do Leslie Sansone. When it rains.

I will be 66 years old next month. My very first 89 lbs came off with walking only, it was after that they I joined a gym and did Water aerobics. I tightened up my arms with the weight there ::in the water::

I still get some growling in my stomach. I think water helps me keep full. Also I maintain a high Protein and low carbs program, I do not drink soda, or eat bread or ANY white flour products. My worst problem is my love for mayonaise. I drink Protein Shakes and eat Greek yogurt , I don't eat red meat.

At this time. After all these years, I still watch what I eat. And now I have no hunger at all. I am sure that the fills you will receive will help you also, I do recommend they you weigh and measure your food. I am not perfect, but at this age, I need to save my self from heart attacks and diabetes that has killed my 2 older brothers. Best wishes to you.

If it were me, I would start tracking calorie intake. The band is a wonderful tool but it requires us to do a lot of the work. You may be taking in more calories than you realize. It is often quoted on here(usually by carolinagirl) that 3500 calories = 1 pound. If you take in more calories than required, you will gain weight. Less calories and you will lose. If you want to lose a pound a week, you need to have a 3500 calorie deficit for the week. One thing that might help is to switch from Protein Shakes to Protein Bars. My surgeon doesn't even allow shakes after the first 4 weeks because they are considered a slider and don't help much in the way of staving off the hunger. He says it's ok to use Protein supplements but to do it in the way of protein bars instead of drinks. That way your protein supplement will give you more satiety. Also, is there a community or civic center with a gym where you could go and walk without having to pay any membership fees? What about a mall? I know, in our area, there are several places in the area where you can go and walk indoors to avoid the elements. I also love walking and I'm even beginning to do a little bit of jogging but I hate being outside when the temps are bitter cold so I have to find other places to do it. I'm fortunate though to have a treadmill so, if nothing else pans out, I can always do that. I've also heard of several different exercise videos that people use and say are great so you might research that as well.

I lost 12 lbs the first two weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. I started losing when I got my 3rd fill and some valuable advice from my nutritionist.

It's really just basic math. Consume fewer calories than you burn and the fat melts away. I'm in Colorado and I get the exercise dilemma. I'm an avid cyclist and hate gyms. We do have some equipment in the house but it's so boring to use. Still use it sparingly but not as much as I could.

Do you have any idea how many calories you consume a day? Many here track every bite going in with many different apps available. Keep getting fills till you feel the satiety to eat much less.

Use MyFitnessPal and you can track your calories.. I don't want to check calories all the time but it keeps me from overeating. My last fill has made a difference and I can tell I have more restriction. Hopefully your next fill will help you. I think we don't think we are eating much but it's also what you eat not how much.. Also if they have a nutritionist on the staff ask for a consult. They have some good ideas on Protein rich foods and what is best for you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
