Hey all, this is a bit early since we just started March 2014, but I just had my surgery Thursday March 6, 2014. Everything went great!! I have a great surgeon. The gas is the biggest change, but walking/probiotics help a lot with that. I hope this can serve a conversation of support and info share.

I had a leakage pouch on the side it was removed the day I left the hospital (yesterday).

My questions is how long does it take to close? How did you clean it? Did they stitch it up or use glue? I feel like air is getting in there but sure its my imagination??

This is my first post! But I had my surgery on Tuesday 4th March. I was told to take my bandage out on Monday but I felt the hole was still gaping so I covered it the a fabric bandage.

Maybe you could cover the drain incision with a bandage as well?

Is your hole closed now or closing?

It's closing... Or at least I think it is.

Is it weird to be getting hungry a week after having surgery? Could anyone possibly shed some light on this please?

Also I'm hoping to move up to pureed foods tomorrow! Fingers Crossed my Dietician gives me the all clear!

I have mental cravings, but I expected that. I knew I wouldn't physically be hungry but mentally (sometimes it seems like the same) I would be. The times I feel the craving is when I smell my family cooking or I see them eating. I recently started getting into charcoal grilling and smoking. So when I see them do it I look for new recipes that I can try when I can eat solids. Another big reason for the surgery, for me, was I wanted to more thing in life IE zip lining, scuba diving, being able to afford last minute flight (because I wont have to purchase 2 tickets or by a business class seat), going to six flags riding all the rides (or having the option) etc.... In essence I think about why I wanted/needed the surgery and I weight out my options.

I say all that to say remember the reason you elected surgery, what your end goals are, and I bet its better then that nice friend food or or Hagen daz ice cream lol. If your like me, we have to change the way we look at food because we want more in life. You got it.

I swear I never post a response this long lol. But last night on TLC I saw a show on TLC my 600lb life about dominique lanoise. Watch it. It help put things in perspective and help me come to this conclusion. long story short:She wanted RNY so bad, she begged and pleaded, but wouldn't loose some weight before hand. She had one dr bringing her food to eat to loose weight. In 10 months she lost 125 pds. She had to wait four months for her surgery once she reach weight goals, but her scale broke. so the dr who was feeding her the diet had no way of knowing of she was staying on it. Four months later, they get her to the hospital the day for her surgery, and in four months she put back on 125pds of course she is denied surgery at 622pds. Trying to keep this short, the doctor finds another surgeon. She has the surgery at 689pds and dies 3 or 6 months later because she could not control her food addiction and dies. I dont want to go out like that and I dont want any of us to go out like that. Surgery wasn't the solution, but a BIG part of the journey to the goal. I can do it, you can do it, we can do it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
