I am converting from the band to the sleeve. I am so nervous. I should have got the sleeve the first time around.

I am doing the same . . had my band removed Feb 13th . . sleeve is scheduled for March 27th. When I was banded, the sleeve was not yet approved in the US. I am also nervous and excited . . nervous because I haven't yet dealt with my "head hunger" and afraid of gaining back whatever I lost , . doing research now on how to cope with head hunger . .

Good luck to you!

Karol

I am so with you on this and worrying about my head hunger. I had the band for 10 years and it was a huge success but only because I had it tight.

It eroded and was removed in January and I have piled the weight on with NO control. My head is a shed.

I had Gastric Bypass surgery December 2005. I was just revised to a Sleeve on 2/10/14. I too was very nervous, excited, anxious... and went through sooooo many emotions leading up to the surgery date. I almost walked out of the hospital waiting for my surgery to start that morning. My mom was with me and helped to keep me calm...that and a lot of prayer.. lol

Its been about a month since I've had my revision...and I can tell you that I am VERY HAPPY with my decision. I had researched the surgery and my surgeon for months before I even had my first consult. I live in Dallas and there are A LOT of doctors who do bariatric surgeries, but only a "select" few that deal with revisions. So far so good...everything has been pretty much text book for me. I've gone back to work... energy level is back at normal... and I've lost about 24 pounds in total ( pre-surgery/post surgery).

I am sure you will do fine... my only problem so far has been the dreaded head "hunger". With the removal of the stomach... Gherlin production is drastically reduced so there is no physical hunger...but I still have the tendency to want to eat something or "graze". Slowly but surely I am learning to tell the difference between wanting to eat and NEEDING to eat. Eating slower is also a BIG change I am having to deal with...and sipping. I am use to eating fast and take large gulps. Use to drink about 2 liters of Diet Dr. Pepper everyday... yes... everyday.. haven't had diet soda since before surgery and right now I don't miss it. Have to remind myself to eat...and the restriction is AWESOME. I am really hoping to reach my goal weight within the next 11 months (140-145 lbs).

Wishing you all the best with your upcoming surgeries... I love my Sleeve :)

One more time Thankyou for your reply, this has been so helpful. I don't feel as frightened that I'm going to fail.

If the restriction is there I know I can do it, my concerns were what if the restriction was not enough? I've read lots on the amount you can eat with a sleeve and this has put my mind at rest.

Thank you and enjoy your journey x

I had the surgery on the 13th. I was not in any pain. I find it hard to get the intended liquid in, because I get full very quickly and I can't finish everything. I am tired of the broth. I am just ready to get to the next stage.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
