Alcohol consumption

I am considering banding, however I enjoy an occassional beer or cocktail. How does banding affect drinking?

I drink a glass or two of wine a couple times a week. It does not ever give me a problem. I do feel like it affects me quicker now and I cant drink as much. I have not tried beer because of the carbonation.

Beer may become a no no due to carbonation issues. I have a glass of wine now and then have sipped champagne on New Year's Eve. Just remember how much sugar you may be looking at with a cocktail. Everything in moderation!

I can't do beer - the one time I tried I ended up feeling bloated and yucky after about 1/2 a glass.

I do drink wine on occasion. Just watch out for the calories. And also, I find it hits harder then it did pre-band.

I had a glass of wine the week after my surgery and it was no problem... It took me about 3 months to try beer and that hasn't been a problem either.

Just give yourself some time to adjust to your fills before you start with carbonation. I lke sugar-free Red Bull and usually have one or two a week. They are really lightly carbonated and are a nice change from the flat Water. BUT, one day I drank one a little too quickly after a pretty tight fill and I just PBd the foam. It was a bizarre feeling and I was expecting something other than a thick foam to have come up but that's all it was.

Go slowly with your carbonation and your alcohol for that matter. Trust me, you'll be a cheap date ;)

I have a glass or two of wine once or twice a week too. I probably drink less than I used to because I'm mindful of the calories.

Also I find that if I'm eating out, or at someone else's house - and therefore probably eating more - wine whilst eating can really hurt. It burns my stomach, in a really acidy, refluxy way. This is only since the last two fills, perhaps it stays in contact with my oesophagus for longer or something. Anyway, I now tend to have a glass before dinner and then stop drinking alltogether these days.

I can drink wine whilst eating if I'm just at home though, how weird is that.

While I don't have the problem with the reflux, I try to stay away from it while eating because I know I consume more food when I'm more intoxicated. I don't mind a glass or two during the week but when I have the glasses with dinner, it hits me so quickly that I don't stop eating when I normaly would and then I feel guilty about it.

Although sometimes, I'd rather just a glass of wine than dinner ;) doh!

I havent figured out why I'd want to bother drinking alcohol....potential problems, struggles, quick drunkenness and calories. What's the point?

I enjoy a "screwdriver" now and then. I find it relaxing, no problem with the band, other than a few wasted calories. I find it even more gratifying in the summer, with ice and frozen fruit, makes a great smoothie.< /p>

I had two glasses of wine and a sip of champagne at a wedding Saturday night. No problem at all.

Not everybody who drinks has alcohol related problems, struggles, drunkeness, and the calories in a glass of wine are less than a yogurt. Some people enjoy having a drink...ain't a big thang.

To each their own... I enjoy my glass of wine and I'm sure you have something that you enjoy. As we've learned, moderation is the key. You could say the same thing for a bunch of the foods that we've eaten that made us fat.

Alcohol is a choice and I choose to drink it in moderation.

margaritas in mexico went down JUST FINE!!! I felt a bit "happier " on just 1 rather than 2or 3...but I didnt get sick. I know that there are empty calories, but dont deprive yourself on anything, or else you will just feel unhappy, like you cant have anything...no good...Drink & be merry!!!

I reserve the calories from alcohol to eating out- It helps relax my stoma and I have never had a stuck, slime or PB at a meal when Ive had some alcohol- That is very important to me if there are alot of people at the table- Especially those who dont know!!

Im sure there are those who replace eating with drinking- Not my personality. Learning the moderation thing is an ongoing lesson!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
