Hunger is back

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 1/2 months post-op and working out 4 days a week with my trainer and doing cardio 6 days a week. I'm hungry all the time which makes me afraid that I will start to gain the weight back. I've also noticed that the amount of food that I consume at one time has increased. My Dietitian wants me to eat meals of 2-3 oz 7 times a day every 3hrs consisting of high Protein and good carbs that will keep me satiated. I told the dietitian about my Special K high protein cereal/crack obsession;I can eat this all day long, she told me to get it out my house and never buy it again because it's obviously a trigger food. I'm so scared of stretching my sleeve and gaining the weight back. I'm 287 today down from 384 on surgery.

Anyone going or has gone through this. All advise and comments are welcome. PHEW!

you already know what you need to do - listen to your dietician. I know it's not easy but think of all the great work you've done so far. Don't waste this opportunity.

SPECIAL K BAD BAD BAD<<<< Personally your dietician is very correct.. Though i eat 4xs per day. about 6 ounces of Protein at each sitting and a cup of so of steamed veges or frozen veges. I eat about 1500+ calories per day now but i work out 7 days a week.. not so much cardio anymore casue im at goal.. I do 30 min cardio a day and weight lift 7 days a week....

Days I workout, I make sure I get extra Protein in. The sleeve only quashes hunger to a point. Your body will still be screaming for more if it really needs it, like your muscles need protein after lifting that often each week. Try upping Water those days and I think you'll find the hunger going away.

My dietician said we can eat the special k Protein. I have a bowl with skim milk now and then. Sounds like you were going overboard. I find myself snacking but small amounts and avoiding sugar. get back to basics. Protein and Water.

I started to get hunger pains around 3-4 months out..... And yes I started to be able to eat more..... Went to my Dr and said that I needed to up my pepcid. The reasoning is the stomach acid we are producing is causing false hunger pains. I also read another post on here about hunger pains and found the same result. So now I take 2 Pepcids and 1 Omeprazole and that works for me. I still have to watch and make sure I take in enough Protein and Water. Hope this helps.

Hello guys, I am pre-surg and being hungry and overeating are two concerns that I hope the surgery will help with. Although I know surgery is not the end to all my issues, what are some of others struggles in this area and what have you done to overcome those issues? I am considering counseling to work through more of my food issues. Have any of you guys done counseling?

I haven't done counseling cause I haven't found I needed it. But I have found that hunger isn't an issue when I get my Water and Protein in. Hunger really does go away at the onset of surgery. I understand that it can come back for a lot of folks, but I'm only 6 months out at this point. The sleeve prevents you from overeating so that should be less of a concern. But, if you find yourself stuffing yourself to the point of feeling bad or throwing up or consistently eating when you are not hungry, then getting some counseling would be ok.

I too was worried about my compulsion to overeat and I can tell you 6 months in I feel in control of it for good.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
