1.5 weeks out, first restaurant trip

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if you're kidding, but I was never told I couldn't go to a restaurant at any time by my NUT. I just had to find something I could eat on my phase, which I did, broth from Soup. I posted this to let others know that being social is still possible without feeling like a stick in the mud. The challenge of doing so made me feel even better about my decision to get sleeved. Oh and I'm down 3 more pounds from Friday, so I'm thinking all went just fine for me. It might not work for others. I'm just sharing an alternative to being stuck at home.

Good for you!! I love your attitude and being social is beyond still possible after being sleeved, even within the same week! U go! Your doing fabulous and your frame of mind and thinking is awesome! Kudos to you!!!

I think you're being a little (way) to dramatic.

I second that, very much so!

Wonderful food choices! I am a little further out than you... I was sleeved on 2/20, and hubby and I have been out a few times to eat. We like to go out for brunch, so I will get a kid's egg and mash it up really well with my fork. We got mexican today, and I got a cheese quesidilla and only ate 1/4 of it- took the rest home. I have a card from my surgeon that will allow me to order from the kids menu if I want. I don't know how much I'll use it because I don't like to call attention to myself.

I totally agree. Lots of people think that they can't go out to eat after WLS, which is totally untrue, and I'm glad you posted this. It's not too hard to find something to eat on almost any stage, soup is always a safe choice. :)

Absolutely!! We chose to have this surgery, the people around us didn't and while I appreciate all the support I've gotten, I certainly don't expect anyone in my life to change their life to meet MY needs.

You did the right thing and you did it well! This surgery is about taking your life back, not putting it on hold. GOOD FOR YOU!

Totally agree. You did awesome! The first few times out are the hardest, but that's because you're still healing and getting the lay of the land. I go out all the time with my family and friends (I'm around 4 months or so?) and it is truly no big deal. Hasn't been a problem at all once I was able to have Soups.

In fact, last night we were out and my DH jokingly said after the waiter had taken our orders and walked away, "Did you order your usual? Styrofoam container?" Eating out is great if you like leftovers.

I was sleeved in jan and be out to lunch and dinner several times, just have to find something on the menus that is on the healthy side, I was just doing Soups in the beginning, last week went to Applebee's and ordered a 4oz steak off the children's menu My wife jokes with me telling me I'm a cheap date, lol.

Yes, between the small portions and no alcohol my hubby is thinking of taking me out more!! Haha! Thanks for all the positive comments. I love that I'm not the only one figuring out how to make the sleeve work for them without letting them work for it!

It's like lipsticklady said, I don't expect anyone to change because of me. But I also am not going to sit at home like a bump on a log because I can't eat like I used to. My nut has even said that she WANT us to go out to eat, just make healthy choices. And to eat "normal" again, just making good choices.

I'm sure once I get out of my liquid stage (this week) I might even go out with friends more.

But to say had husband or to stay away for 6-8 weeks? That's just absurd.

I love eating out with my sleeve. I can always pay in cash and it's never more than $5 unless I get a glass of wine first.

I am over the Soup thing unless it's cold. I usually order the add on Protein so anyone's salad who orders one. Did you know that even if you order one extra Protein, you can order a second? I usually get something with shrimp or an appetizer with full knowledge that I will be taking some home. I have no qualms about ordering off menu and most places are happy to comply. (Single steak taco, hold the tortilla? SURE! Grilled fish, half portion, absolutely! Shrimp app, broiled not fried? YUP!)

I always take food home which means I've learned to carry my cooler with an ice pack in the back of the mini van!

I was sleeved on 2/10 and was invited to brunch and Bloody Mary's with friends. I wasn't going to go but I wanted to see them. I had a half of a virgin bloody mary and a meatloaf slider no bun. It was nice to get out and I didn't envy my friends giant burgers and friends one bit!

You can absolutely eat out.. I had a birthday celebration about 2 weeks post op I had mashed potatoes and applesauce. Nobody cared and even if they did I don't care. There are always Soups and even when you get further along there are things you can eat without issues.. No sure how the sleeve works but Band's are a little restrictive and we have to be careful with things like Steak or dry chicken. I can eat pretty much most things with exception of iceberg lettuce.. not sure why.

I had my surgery on 3/6 and just sent boyfriend out for some wonton Soup. I needed something with a little more flavor but I am worried about the amount of oil in it. Reading some of these posts is helpful and inspiring. I would like to know how strict and what your eating plan is for you to have lost 100 lbs, rensterness? That is awesome.

Congrats on your surgery! I was taking down the wonton soup broth in the hospital, my fave! There is also a Swanson brother that is called Mexican Tortilla that is good, but you have to like spicy to like it. Had to change things up with the liquid part and not just stick with one broth. My personal eating plan, which to each there own, but mine is pretty basic, I get the really tiny can of Spicy Thai Medley Bumble Bee tuna and have my cabinets stocked with that, that I usually eat about half or less (3 oz can so I eat about 1-1/2 oz) once a day as a meal. Breakfast is a , which I use VI Protein powder or EAS drink depending on the day. For my third meal it is usually fish, salad with tuna (I can eat VERY little salad) or something of that, or I go out with friends for that meal, and honestly I do tend to skip a meal and us stature it with a Choboni Tube Yogurt or a String cheese. If I go out, which is often, majority of the time I will get something from the kids meal, no fries and ask for them to wrap half the meal to go before bringing me my serving. I go out with a friend who has had the surgery a lot and we tend to order one thing and just pick. I drink a glass of Lactaid Milk with two scoops of Ovaltine once a day, and throughout the day in my bottle is Low Calorie G2. I use the Ab roller that I got at Walmart for $20 and it is the EASIEST way to to sit ups and not like totally exhausting and do about 50 of them throughout the day. I use the WII Fit occasional but haven't lately. I am officially down 112 since day of surgery, October 7, 2013. I attached a pic before/after for you to see. Wishing you nothing but success!!!!!

I'll be having my first "out-to-eat" excursion on Wednesday, and let me tell you, I am pumped for it! It'll be three weeks post op for me on that day, and I have never looked more forward to a hot steaming bowl of restaurant Soup more in my life!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
