not a very good idea so early on. as a general rule coffee is off limits for the first two months and sugar is a big no-no forever. But only your doctorcan give you answers particular to you in these matters

What is wrong with Decaf coffee? Why can we drink tea with sugar substitute but not coffee?

I am 4 months post op and have not had coffee yet since it was on my nono list for.6.months per my surgeon. Coffee is a dieuretic and pushes the Water out of your body so I recommend that you also drink another glass of water. Caffeine stimulates appetite and will tell you that you are hungry when maybe you are not. Be careful-very small amounts maybe go heavy on the milk? I do sugar in the raw in tea so I have fully swapped to tea in the AM if I need a caffeine lift. Good luck!

I have been drinking Decaf coffee since 2 wks. before my surgery with sugar-free coffee creamer. I don't use sugar but we are allowed to use truvia or stevia, also Crystal lite has splenda in it, so it is allowed by my doctor. I'm 2-12 months out and will ask my surgeon when I see him next week when I can go back to caffeinated coffee...I do miss it.

Please let us know what your doc says. I am curious. I get caffeine headaches so I think I'm going to just have a tiny cup of coffee anyway. I only drink 2 sips anyway and I'm full.

My surgeon didn't have any restrictions with coffee. It was actually on the list for the week of Clear liquids. after 2 or 3 days I had a cup every morning. I drank it black with spleda til the full liquid period started and then used fat free half and half. With the fat free half and half you need to measure and track the calories and include them in your daily intake.

Also, ----->> NO SUGAR<<----- none, zero, zilch. From here on out you really need to be avoiding all added sugar. Use a substitute. Once your use to it, sugar wont be missed.

You'll find that each doctor seems to have different advice regarding coffee, among other things. I was given clearance to drink Decaf coffee right away and regular coffee at 5 weeks. :)

I was told no caffeine until 2 months post op. :( However, my NUT told me Decaf was okay after week 2.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
