Why I Dont Crave Sweets

Recommended Posts

I read a few threads where people were worried about cravings for sweets. So I was thinking, "hey I was a total carb addict, why don't I want sweets...?"

ITS BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS SWEET. Let me explain:

For two weeks pre-op and two weeks post-op, you drink fluids and try to get Protein in but it's almost all liquid. So you drink Protein shakes, which are sweet. You get Protein powder, which is sweet and made with sweet flavors, and you mix it into milk. You drink your Decaf coffee sweet, and as you slide into ketosis, even veggies start to taste sweet. Don't like Water plain? Well here's an exhaustive list of sweet flavors you can add. Oh, and Greek yogurt is sweet too!!

Everything is sweet, made for people who have an uncontrollable sweet tooth and still want to be healthy.....

But....

I JUST WANT SOMETHING SAVORY AND SALTY PLEASE. Oh sure, I can sip chicken broth. It's not very fulfilling. Now that I'm eating soft foods, I absolutely adore some pulled pork, or some good rich chicken Soup.

Do I want a Protein shake? F* no. I don't want dessert, I don't want any f*ing Jello, I want something that tastes like food.

I am so sick of sweet things. A surgery-buddy called me today to ask about the self-pay stuff for a friend of hers, and I was like "do you still like chocolate? "

She said, "oh hell no. I am so freaking sick of chocolate flavored everything. I want a steak!! With SALT!"

Anyone else wanna chime in on this? Now I HAVE heard there's savory-flavor Protein Powder out there, and I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to.... But is anyone else sick to death of "SWEET" for this reason?

You know what, I hadn't thought about "why" but since surgery I've been craving salty things like chips & fries, etc, whereas before sweets, Cookies, etc were my demise. Interesting....

I understand how u feel . You r right at the beginning u drink all these sweet Protein Drinks. I used to be a sugarholic pre op. Now I tend to go to a food healthy meal which is salted and seasoned well . Of course, I am not complaining that I lost a good bit of my sweet tooth. I if u just had surgery within the last month.. Just be patient..around week 5 or 6,you will enjoy many salty food. Hang in there :)

I am exactly the same way. I'm 10 weeks out I am SO sick of sweet. Even Tomato Soup tastes too sweet to me. As for Greek yogurt, I'm eating just plain because all the flavors are too sweet. I started drinking a big cup of Unjury chicken Soup for Breakfast because I can't stand the sweet Protein Shakes anymore. Unfortunately plain Water is hard for me to drink now, so I have to have something mixed in. I make everything 1/2 strength and dilute G2, Vitamin Water, and juices with water because they are all too sweet. I'm actually a big fan of V8 juice these days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
