Scrambled eggs versus peanut butter?

Recommended Posts

I have a question. Is anyone out there having trouble with scrambled eggs? I was banded May 25 of this year currently at 2 cc's third fill but I cannot eat scrambled eggs yet Peanut Butter (the chunky variety is no problem) why is that?

Dunno???????????

I am at 2cc's also and I can eat both but egg whites are easier then the whites and yolk scrambled..maybe try it that way it still has plenty of Protein and less cholesterol and fat..chunky Peanut Butter goes down easier then creamy peanut butter for me..

I guess you will find out too that chips go down but a piece of chicken from dinner did not..

Funny how the band works. I have never had a problem with eggs but today I puked my guts out after 4 bites..

CRAZY!

I like the skippy queeze. It is the right amount and as long as I eat slow I can get it down.

Somedays I can eat loads of stuff the next day I can't eat a thing?

My first PB was on over-easy eggs. Believe me, it was a HUGE surprise, 'cause I eat them all mashed up like you would for a baby. But I was running late for work, and was eating quickly over the sink (which turned out to be a handy location... lol)

I think Sue has nailed it on the head - eggs don't dissolve, they just turn into smaller pieces. The same holds true for most meats, particularly if they're dry, as there's not a lot of lubricant to help things slide through, which is why you'll often read recommendations to have sauce/gravy with your meats - to help them slide through.

I personally think if you need lube to get your meats through, you're too tight - but that's just my personal opinion. I would say that most people still eat too fast and don't chew well enough, and that causes problems, and symptoms of being too tight, when they're really not.

Like me - after I had my band removed, I had a couple of PBs. Now, you KNOW I wasn't too tight!!! lol But I still had some residual restriction, and I was swallowing faster than I was emptying, and voila! Return to sender!

I can't eat eggs at all, haven't been able to since banding. But last night I had the most delicious burger patty, nice and rare the way I like it and the way no restaurant will cook it anymore. As I ate I kept thinking "eggs are softer than this!!" but I've come to accept that eggs and I have parted ways permanently.

Hey, there are worse things to live through.

It sounds like a lot of people can't eat eggs. I know bread is a bad one for some too. What are some of the other foods that bother you? I know everyone is different, but it would be fun to compare what food bothers the most people.

bread, tortillas, beef, tacos, chips, all the things your not supposed to eat anyway right? Oh yeah I almost forgot eggggggggggggggggs! LOL I tried the scrambled egg whites too but they still dont go down. That makes total sense about the eggs not dissolving. I never thought of that. I can drink Pelligrino Water but I cant handle sodas...dunno?

Magnolia: I found that if I have my eggs very soft scrambled and add some cheese then they go down much easier. Also, I don't eat more than one scrambled egg. I just can't get more than that down. I also have to really mash them up with a fork. My boyfriend, John, makes really mushy scrambled eggs that literally slide down without much chewing. Never PB'd on his eggs. They just have to be very moist. If they are dry then forget it. I don't even try. He made some one mornng that turned out too dry and he ate those and made me some more. He adds shredded cheese and cream cheese to his and man are they GOOOOOOOD!!

Can't eat eggs either. Too bad, cause I love them, or used to. I've just about given up on them. If I would have known that I couldn"t eat eggs after the band, I'd do it again in a heartbeat!!

I wasn't able to eat eggs in the mornings either, and boy did I miss them. Then I saw a post on smart bandsters about adding cottage cheese to them and scrambling. I put in a spoon full to one egg, a little bit of cheese and they were so delicious and kept me full for hours...but didn't plug me up. I like the suggestion of cream cheese, too...I guess they just need something that makes them a little more moist. I also find that I have to cook them very slowly so they don't even get browned at all- then they are too dry. Cook them over low heat for a little longer and they will be moist and yummy. When they are no longer shiny they are done.

eggs rule.

Yeah, I can't handle scrambled eggs either, even though I mixed them with quite a lot of milk & they were still shiny. I'm still in the mushy phase (four more days to go) & am hoping I can eat runny poached eggs, as Sue suggested.

Mexican food option for those who have trouble with tortilla dishes: tamales. In mushland we can have only the masa (cornmeal) part, but it soaks up the juice from the yummy stuff inside & takes the edge off that spicy jones. (Someone in our restaurant party on Atkins was happy to clean up my leftover meat!) Post-mush, the sliced beef filling might still be too stringy for most bandsters, but I'm looking forward to giving it a try.

Glad to know its not just me having problems with eggs... sure seems like alot of people do. I can only eat eggs with cheese in them too! They are yummy that way!! It only takes a couple of bites those eggs get stuck!!! What a bad feeling!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
