Hi all,

I don't post much at all, but I'm here most days finding support, inspiration, and success stories. It was one year ago when I had my first visit with my bariatric surgeon. I weighed about 275 pounds. I struggled with the decision to have WLS up until the moment I was rendered unconscious by the anesthesiologist. My band was placed on August 9, 2013. Today I'm down to 199 pounds.

Now the hard work begins. I would like to drop about ten more pounds to reach my goal of being "overweight." I had my sixth fill earlier this week. My weight loss has slowed considerably over the past month or so. I say the hard work begins now because I've lost and gained hundreds of pounds over the past thirty-five years, and I wonder, once again, if I will able to keep the weight off.

So thanks to you all for sharing the good and the bad. This is a good support group, one that I will continue to be part of (even if only to read).

Congrats on arriving at Onederland. I'm worried too about trying to stay at my goal weight once I finally get there. I gained and lost 30/40/50 lbs many times and they always came back with their friends. I hope the wls is the permanent trick for me.

Thanks for stopping by and telling us about your progress. :)

Spectacular Joe!

PS: I was wearing a black sweater threaded with gold at work yesterday. It kinda sparkles because of the touches of gold in it and one of my coworkers called it a 'Staten Island sweater'. I thought that was very funny...I do hope you think same... ;)

Congratulations. I think we all have the same fear of whether we will be able to maintain. I will say, I have had my band for 10 months and my whole perspective of food has changed. I'm not there yet, I'm still a fat person in a slimmer body. But, I expect with more hard work I will get there. You will too. Just keep your eyes straight ahead.

Thanks to everyone for the congrats. And no Liz, no offense. My wardrobe has one or two gold specked items - a requirement for all of us Staten Island residents, since most if us transplants thought we would find gold at the end of the bridge.

Great number and great work ! You are putting the work in and you will reach ur goal :) slow and Steady still wins the race. The difference Btwn this and past attempts is the band . It will help you as you listen and learn to live with it. I was banded 7-1-13. N I kno I will never be that 293 woman again. The difference is the band it reminds me if I over eat n for that I am certain I will maintain this loss and so will you.

Congratulations on such a great milestone. That is what I am looking forward to, seeing that 2 drop off. I'm still 9 days away from surgery and take strength from all of your posts. Even in our weak moments.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
