10 days til the big trip to Mexicali! Can't wait to....

Recommended Posts

10 days to go until the dreaded 23 hour trip to San Diego (and on to Mexicali). Today I started thinking about some of the things I'm really looking forward to after surgery:

- Smaller boobies! I've been packing double Gs around for far too long. There is nothing cute or sexy about these big mamas or the ugly bras that cover them. There are 2 styles of bras at Nordstrom that can handle the job and neither of them are cute. Can't wait to burn them!

- Seeing results of my workouts at the gym. I'm strong, freakishly strong, and love lifting weights and doing crossfit. I know I have some hardcore muscles underneath the layers of fat and I can't wait to be able to see them! Plus now I feel like a fraud because I work out but don't get any smaller...

- Being able to feel comfortable in short sleeves or (gasp!) tank tops. I live on a tropical island and wear long sleeves every day. It sucks.

- Wearing a dress and feeling girly. Haven't worn a dress/skirt since about 2004, the last time I was fit and healthy. Can't remember what it's like to feel feminine.

- Scuba diving and paddle boarding at a normal weight. It's gonna feel great! It's gonna be so much easier! Two hobbies that I love haven't been much fun lately. I can't wait til it's fun again!

- Being more comfortable at the beach. Let's face it: there's nothing relaxing about walking around at the beach at my weight. The only thing that saves me is that the majority of the local population is very overweight as well so I blend in. But still. :(

-Enjoying physical activity again. Bye bye sore feet and back! Hello, long lost hobbies!

- Dating. It's been a long, long, long time. I've never been comfortable in my skin since gaining weight and I've become a hermit. I miss men!

How about you? What are you looking forward to after surgery?

I have similar things to look forward to:

Buying prettier outifts: I have been wearing pants, long tops and cardigans for far too long. I can't wait to wear fitted clothes and not worry about my arms, thighs or stomach.

Smaller bra size

Increased Energy and Stamina: Feeling lighter and able to handle more exercise with a smaller body. I love yoga, but I hate certain poses where I am squished against my fat and can't breathe. I would also love to run/jog without being out of breath and aching. I look forward to taking yoga classes and not worrying about how fat I look in the poses. I also want to try pilates but was always afraid I couldn't do it because of my weight.

Being comfortable taking pictures: I dodge and dread the camera now because I don't want to see how big I am. I also manage to avoid full-length mirrors (except in the restrooms at work)

Increased Confidence: I feel self-conscious asking for what I am worth at work or at job interviews. I am looking forward to a boost of self esteem and confidence at work or when out with others.

Portion Control: I struggle with that and am looking forward to feeling fuller faster

That's the short list off the top of my head...I'm sure there are more wonderful things ahead!

Dr Aceves? Love him, he did my revision in 2010. My surgeon here did follow up and said my sleeve was beautifully done. Great care in Mexicali.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
