Hi. I just wanted to introduce myself. I live in the Chattanooga Area and had my surgery in November. I have been doing pretty well. I have lost 36 pounds but most of that was from the liver diet. I didnt have any restriction after my first fill. I have had some with my second but I definitely need a third. I have found reading your back posts interesting and wish I had known about this site when I was going through those things like insurance and testing. Anyway, I am looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Hi everyone,

My surgery is Monday 1/26 (Dr. Ponce at the Ambulatory Surgery Center in Dalton, GA) at 7:30AM. I had to drive down Wednesday so they could look at my throat and make sure they could put a tube down it. While I was there they also did an EKG. Everything is fine. After two weeks of my pre-op liquid diet, the diet after surgery should be a breeze. I also went to a support group meeting at the Gastric Band Institute Tuesday nite and got some good info. Brooke said she is doing the insurance (for now)

I'll check in after surgery and let you know how I'm doing. I've lost 7 lbs so far on the pre-surgery diet.

That's great! Be sure and come back and let us know how your surgery went.

I need to schedule another fill. I have been putting it off. But after being able to eat a whole burrito and nachos from Taco Bell tonight, I know I need to schedule it tomorrow.

Does anyone know the whole story about what happened to Johnna?

I went for my fill on Monday. I wanted to ask so bad what happened with Johnna. I figured that Brooke was doing insurance. She was sitting there doing some type of paperwork when I got there. Whatever it was, it put her behind. My appointment was for 1, but I didn't get my fill until almost 2. By that time, there was 4 or 5 of us waiting.

Hey Downsdc, I know that you will do great with your surgery. Let us know how you are. I will be sending good thoughts your way.

She did. I think I might have restriction now. At least for the moment. I ate about half a cup of tuna salad this morning and was stuffed. I am noticing now that I do have to slow down to eat. I tried to eat a pear this morning and was eating it too fast. I actually felt it backing up into my throat. Thankfully, I hadn't taken another bite. I got and walked around until it went down.

I want Brooke to do mine because the doctors keep putting too much in. I have had to have 2 unfills. Brooke said I need to schedule it with her next time.

I told her I was scared to be too tight. She made sure that I could almost swig the Water before she took the needle out. I was really glad that she did my fill this time. I can really tell a difference from the last fill where I didn't really tell much difference at all. She told me that she was just bumping it up a little. She said that she was putting however much was put in the last time. However much that was, it seems (for now) to be right. I can only hope that it doesn't all of a sudden get too tight.

I think that they offer support group meetings at Memorial Hospital on Wednesday afternoons in the weight management area. When I went there for my psych eval, they mentioned that we were welcome at those. I don't know exactly when GBI has their support group meetings. I know it is only once a month.

The monthly support group meetings at the Gastric Band Institute (Memorial Atrium on Gunbarrel behind Starbucks) are on the third Tuesday of every month at 5:30PM.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
