Oh my, how long since you had surgery? Did you just get the lapband?

Hope all goes well.

Corliss

I had lap band surgery in May 2008. They don't think it is anything band related.

Thanks. I hope so to. I can't keep missing so much work and I'm supposed to start nursing school soon.

Carrie - I hope you feel better soon.

Has anyone tried the Shirataki noodles? I was wondering if they went down better than semolina pasta...

I just purchased some of the noodles from Greenlife grocery this past weekend. I haven't tried them yet. Luluc told me to make sure rinse them really well before cooking them. I had a fill Tuesday, so I may try them this weekend. I did find that website that you pointed out for the naked nuggets. I was not able to find anywhere local that sold them though. I haven't decided if I want to order some online. I had just ordered the powdered Peanut Butter when I saw the site for the naked nuggets. I may order some just to see if they are good.

Hey, I got the shiratak noodles at Greenlife back before I was rebanded. The texture does seem as if they might be easier to go down that regular. I could eat about anything at this point without Fluid in my band. I am pretty much wide open, but may buy some just to keep the carbs low. And YES do rinse them extremely well, several times, and go exactly by the cooking directions. They stink really bad when you first open the package, but they do not retain that smell when rinsed and cooked properly.

Chicken nuggets are just too easy to fix from fresh chicken to bother ordering them. Just put you a fresh chickne breast or strip on a cutting board and slice. No problem. Marinate it and frie, bake, stirfry or steam, what ever your appetite and consience dictates, lol!

What type of dish did you use the noodles for? That has been part of my problem. I haven't been able to decide what to do with the. You know, I hadn't even given a thought to making my own nuggets without breading. I will being buying some chicken today.

You can put any kind of italian style sauce on that you would use on Pasta or you can go oriental and that is tasty with a bit of sauteed veggies and chicken, onions, mushrooms and some peanuts or a little crunch Peanut Butter and i get the sesame oil and oriental chili sauce and use those, just make a stirfry and put the noodles in it. They tend to tangle up a bit like sewing thread, but they are very satisfying.

I only used them 2 x. I also put a chunky italian sauce, I make it with diced tomatoes canned, and mushrooms, onions, garlic and just let it simmer. You can add meat if you want to, I just added mozzarella and some parmesan. I also use basil and oregano for flavor too. You will end up with more veggies than noodles it seems, but for us that is a good thing.

They add almost no cals to the mix! The only down side is the scent, but as i said you can take care of that easy enough.

I buy the boneless chicken and stock up when ever price goes low and it is so easy to use in anything, anyway you want to use it. I use chicken so much when i cook it is a staple at my house.

you could even make that oriental noodle salad with the shitaki noodles. I may try that myself, I need to make a run to greenlife anyhow.

Thanks for the great ideas! I think I am going to try a stir fry with veggies and mushrooms. I bought some things at the store. I already had sesame oil so I think that will work out well. Thanks again!

Ok, so I made the stir fry. It smelled so good! I tasted one piece of veggie. I couldn't eat it! I had braces put onto my bottom teeth today and couldn't stand the sensation of the food hitting my teeth! I tried some Soup, it had little bits of things that needed to be chewed. I couldn't eat that either. I am now sipping on slim fast. I haven't even had the braces for a day, but I already hate them.

Yeah, just across the bottom to fix problems created by my full face CPAP machine. The mask was really too little, so I would pull it really tight to keep the seal around my mouth. Wearing it that way for a while started moving my lower teeth. I no longer wear the CPAP and decided to get my mouth fixed while my insurance would still pay for it.

How are you feeling? When are you having your tests done?

I would still buy the naked nuggets if they were available at the local Sam's.

I am feeling much better thanks. I will probably be having some tests next week. I know I have to have a colonoscopy. Then if that's normal, they want to do the exploratory surgery. But I probably won't know anything else until next week. I had to find a new doctor. Long story, but the gynecologist I had was a real bitch. My primary care doctor has taken over.

I had braces taken off in December. I only had them on the top to close a huge gap. I have been having to wear a retainer all the time because when I leave it out for a few hours, my teeth start to separate and the gap tries to come back. So now I will have to have a wire put on the back of my 2 front teeth to keep them closed. I really need a new body!!

You and me both Carrie! I would take care of a new body much better than I did this old one that I have.

Punkster-If I had seen the naked nuggets at Sam's, I would have bought them too. I looked.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
