Hi! I am new to the site! I started my variate is surgery process 6 years ago with the plans to have bypass and again 5 years ago with the same plans but two deaths in my family made me decide that it was a sign! So 6 months ago I started again with the sleeve in mind and everything seems to be falling into place!

My 6 months are up and the info is being submitted to the insurance company hopefully today! My HW was 316. My SW was 278 (I actually lost 20 lbs before I started my 6 months) my CW is around 240. I have always been the famous yoyo dieter and I don't want to do that anymore!

I am an RN and it is difficult to tell my patients what to do to be healthy when I am overweight myself and come from a family who is also overweight!

I can't wait to have surgery and am currently looking at surgery the first week in April providing everything goes as planned!!

Welcome Ndipilato, glad you decided to join our group. I understand your worries about the bypass as I am currently doing my liquid diet to have the bypass in a week and a half, I am actually happy with my choice only because I know my body and my self, and I am ready for this. I also am a yoyo dieter, and too have been a heavy person since I was real young. I am ready for this change and this to be the end of obesity for me. I need this to be and that is why I am putting my full head into it. I hope that you get your decision from the insurance company soon and you are happy with the sleeve. The reason I decided on the bypass was because I had the band back in 2010 and it did not work for me, something happen with the band and made a year of hell for me, so I had it taken out in 2011 and was so discouraged that I didn't have a revision done which I should have and I know that now but because of everything I had gone through I didn't trust something else. So I joined weight watchers thinking that I could do that, and went to meetings and everything I lost maybe 10lbs in 5 months. I have a super bad thyroid that I take meds for and I just think that with that issue it hinders me in losing weight. I went to my doctor to ask about bypass and when he said that if I got the sleeve and that didn't work then I could always get the bypass after right then I was like no way, I am having the bypass I am not going to have a surgery knowing that there is one more that i can get and jeopardize my weight loss with that knowing there was something else I could do. I am all set, so that is why I made my choice!!! Well Welcome and good luck!!!

Yeah mine did also with my 2 kids! I am not that high but my endocrinologist is a flake and doesn't check my levels very often? I take 125 mcg's Mon - sat. And 250 on Sunday. I also have goiters on mine too which when I do see her all she ever wants to do is biopsy my throat and that hurts like heck!!! Have you had that done? Ugh when she says it I always tell her no.

I have never had that done, just the nuclear scan! I have not ever seen an endocronologist either my PCP cares for mine and now the surgeons office has checked it but my levels were ok right now so... I know it is hard because we have to work twice has hard to lose the weight but it comes back 1/2 as easy!

That is another reason I have chose surgery because I know it isn't the cure all, however it is a tool that I can use and follow for the rest of my life to make the necessary changes! I just wish it were here and time! Will relax a little once my insurance approves it!!

I had to start seeing an endocrinologist because my PCP wouldn't do anything for mine? I just had all my labs done for surgery so it must be OK otherwise I think they would have said something??? Trust me you don't want it done it hurts!!! I cried both times they did it, and I have a high tolerance for pain!!!! It is very hard to lose weight with a hypo thyroid and very easy to gain it and that's why I am having the surgery too!!!

Here post 10 months surgery. Have bad thyroid and I work overnight! Not a good mix. Long story short I am an RN too. Pre weight 310 now 177. Sleeved on May 1, 2013. Greatest thing I ever did. Still on thyroid med down to 100 mcg per day. Only other med Vitamins and Lipitor for slightly high cholesterol. Father died of heart attack at early age. Go for it! Has changed my life for the better.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
