You might want to do a search on this site - the previously written answers will be helpful to you.

I have a desk job, and I took a week off. Surgery on a Wednesday, and I went back to work the following Wednesday. In retrospect it would have been better for me to take off 3 more days and return the next Monday. Not because of discomfort, but because my head wasn't in the game. All I could think about was when and what to eat / drink next, etc etc. That did not go away by the following week, but it was a bit less by then.

I am having surgery on March 11th. My FMLA approved 6 weeks off. However, my surgeon said if I have a low impact or desk job, that 2 weeks is just fine. So, I will take 2 weeks off, and if I need longer at least I have it approved.

Ok thank u. I was thinking 6 weeks. I work in a group home with behaviors so it can get physical at times

I have a desk job and I telecommute - I had surgery on a Thursday and started working 1/2 days starting the following Monday. There was one day I worked the whole day, but was really tired. If I had to go to an office, I would have taken the week following surgery off completely. I needed time to rest and take care of myself.

I also have a desk job and work from home, so it's a bit more convenient. I took 2 weeks off and I'm glad I did. It took me a week before I could really focus on anything other than how uncomfortable I felt and my eating schedule. I go back to work on Monday, 3/10/14 and I'm confident that I'll be fine and it doesn't hurt that I can wear pajamas, sweats and a t-shirt:)

I ended up with 3 weeks and then went back to work for half days the first week, which was GREAT for me... it's better to get approved for more time, and not need it as opposed to less time and then you can't get it extended! I'm sure they will welcome you back sooner than you were approved for, if you feel good :)

Thanks my two cents worth

I'm a vet tech, so on my feet all day and sometime wrestling critters. Took 1 week off, worked 1/2 days for a week, then full time at 2 weeks post op. Limited my lifting to no more than 20 pounds until week 3.

I was sleeved and on 01/14/2014, I have been very fortunate to not have any issues after surgery so far. I went back to work after two weeks but I do not lift or bend at my job. I sit and work at a computer. I probably could have went back the 2nd week but it took everything I had to learn my new requirements and work hard to meet my requirements. Water 64+ ounces a day, Protein 70+ grams a day, and calories for me was 800 a day. Good Luck and just know no matter how easy or difficult the recovery may be for you, you will make it through and look back one day at it as a distant memory.

I have a desk job and my surgeon has recommended 3-4 weeks off to avoid future complications

I'm a social worker. If u work in a group home I strongly recommend 4-6 weeks

My surgery was 2/20 and I am returning to work next Monday. :) My doctor didn't really specify how much time I should take off, but two weeks seems like the average time.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
