How do you choose what surgery is right for you.

I don't know what type of surgery to do my doctor is kind of leaving up to me. She has ruled out of the band, but she's leaning towards the sleeve because that seems to be her specialty. When I met with another doctor he was leaning towards the full bypass. And now I am just getting mixed up.

Tipp2 hi I could have had either one but after meeting with my doctor it was suggested I gave the bypass because of my sweet tooth and hypol .

I had the sleeve and at least 2 ladies I work with have had bypass, we are all satisfied with the weight we have lost. I can say that weight loss seems to be easier for the ladies who had the bypass. But for me, I thought the bypass was too extreme, the thought of having my intestines rerouted and the requirement to take Vitamin supplements for the rest of my life was not appealing. The sleeve seemed less "extreme" and more like having a haircut - "Okay doc, just trim a little off the stomach. And can you make it look like Bieber's?" :-)

In the end, you have to go with what makes you feel the most comfortable.

If my stomach ends up looking like Bieber, I'm suing somebody! ;)

I am going with the sleeve, for the same reasons listed above. I would rather have less disruption to my digestive system, if I can get away with it and still have positive results. I was initially looking at banding, but I finally decided against having an implant because my insurance doesn't cover it and I was afraid if I had problems later, they wouldn't pay for removal.

I kind of feel like there isn't really a "right" answer, and that different things work for different people. And I'm sure you'll figure out which is the best for you.

I did the research prior going into the surgeons office. I was freaked out with the notion of bypass and the malabsorption issues, so i went with the sleeve. My surgeon said it was up to me ultimately decide and didn't push me one way or the other. With bypass there are many more restrictions, and for some that structure is good. (I too have a sweet tooth problem, but due to a family member I know having a really bad experience after bypass I opted against it). All I can say is just look at both procedures and make the determination that way.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
