Maybe i wasnt ready for this ..#vent

4 days post op and I literally feel like I am not cut out for this. I'm struggling knowing that I can't eat real food. So sick and tired of broth, it makes me nauseated even thinking about it. Popsicles and Jello are pissing me off too. Id rather not eat anything then have to eat broth or smell it ever again! What is my problem? Is there anything else I should try besides chicken/beef/vegetable broth? Oh and I'm Pissed off at the world right now and in a really low funk. I'm trying to stay positive but I don't know why I'm still craving food???

All pretty normal. I lived on wonton Soup broth fron my fav Chinese restaurant. My hunger never did go away do I lived for each weekly appt with my nut so I could eat. I found the surgery very painful and the first few weeks sucked. But I lost 123lbs in 10 months and am now on maintenance. It was sooo worth it! Feel better and hang in there.

Thanks so much DanaMomto3 yeah this is not as easy as I hoped it would be. I know everyone says it's worth it, and I hope that will be the case for me. One day at a time I guess?

It's day 7 for me and it's rough but it will get better. I keep having pains in my stomach but I think it is more gas and indigestion rather than hunger. I have been eating cream of chicken Soup that I have run through my mini-blender and am trying to cram in as much Protein of any kind when I can and that is suppose to curb any hunger. Also what I remember the doctors and reading told me that they cut out the part of the stomach that generates a hunger hormone. You can do it. Good luck.

Hi! You and your body are adjusting to the new sleeve. I could only tolerate broth for two days and I was D.O.N.E! I still have 10 cans of broth on my shelves and I refuse to touch them (even to add to food). I completely relate with you on that. If your 4 days out then you're on full liquids right? Ask your doctor if you can make smoothies. Dr.'s are different with the food phases, if you are struggling there are options. I couldn't stand another Protein shake or broth, but those smoothies saved me. You can mix all kinds of yogurts, fruits, Protein etc. Don't give up on your sleeve, once you get used to a certain kind of liquid it will be your "go to" on the days you can't tolerate certain foods. Oh, and sugar free jell-o!

Most of us (not everyone) struggled in the beginning. You just have to find what works for you. Sometimes that's the hardest part. Good luck on your journey!

I felt the exact same way. I'm a month out and only had to be on Clear Liquids for a week, and IT SUCKED. I begged my surgeon to switch to full liquids a day early. To this day I cannot stomach the smell of chicken broth.

But I promise you, as you advance your diet stages, you'll realize how awesome the journey was. And you'll become best friends with the scale!

Good to hear that you are doing better. I am 10 days post and am struggling a little bit. I make my chicken broth at the time when people in my office make thier lunches (at least you get to use a spoon)lol. Then I use the popsicles & Jello as my treat. I have a couple co-workers who come by my office to walk with me twice during my shift to make sure I get my walking in everyday. Good Support seems to be keeping me going ... and of course the 22 lbs. I have lost so far. lol

I was on Clear Liquids for one day...until my leak test. Then they put me on full liquids. I'm supposed to be on them for two weeks, and have 6 days left before I get to move to pureed foods. I talked to my nutritionist today, and she told me I could have stuff like grits with butter, or mashed potatoes as long as they were watery enough to go through a straw (but not to use a straw). She also made a suggestion that I found wonderful....tried it tonight. It was a half a cup of refried Beans, with a little cheese, melted, and I used chicken broth to make it smooth enough to fit in a straw. I also put just a little mayo in it and a little salt. It was wonderful. She said I could also add unflavored Protein to it to boost the Protein level. I can't wait until I can have stuff like scrambled eggs, but now I think I can do this.

I haven't had any nausea, and not much pain, but I am a little scared right now to overdo drinking Water or eating anything over a couple of ounces. I usually take a long time to eat, even the full liquids. I've lost about 16 pounds so far, and I am feeling pretty tired at work. I think I should have taken more time off....

I feel the same way I'm 8 days out its tuff, my surgeon has me on full liquids for 3 weeks and then puréed I feel like I could eat the paint off the walls at times. It's getting harder and harder to get my Protein Shakes down without gagging, broth is feeling the same way. I know it will get better and just have to fight past this. We can do it!!

I'm on day 3 and I agree, no more broth! Baby food peaches we yummy today though, never thought I'd say that, LOL! Glad to know I'm not alone in the struggle. Still hungry and a little blue...

I did those clear broths for 5 or 6 days and they were disgusting. I finally just got chicken noodle Soup and just strained the noodles and chicken out of it. It tasted sooo good and met the qualifications of clear broth. On week two I started eating Cream of wheat and put some cinnamon and Spenda in it. It really cured those hunger pains and felt like I was eating food. I made runny scrambled eggs, grits with butter, and oatmeal. It was a nice break from the soup. I'm from the south and our food has always had seasoning and flavor...I just can't do food with no flavor. I bought a food processor and just started processing any food my husband was eating and it all went down just fine. Sometimes you just have to experiment and find what you can tolerate. I am still loving my tunafish and chicken salad. They go down easy and have taste and are filling. No more Soups for me.

I totally understand, I was the same way. Once out of recovery I was like, What have y'all done to me? For days I was mad, hungry and was so tired of everything you named. All I can say, it does get so much better. This is very early for you. Your stomach was cut not your brain so it natural for you to want more to eat. Continue to drink your Water water water, in the midst of being mad you don't want to get dehydrated.

Beautiful Saturday morning, and I'm not up to enjoying it. I feel weak from eating so much less than I'm used to. Just plain ol' tired. Kinda have the blues too. I'm 12 days out now, and I'm so tempted to just go grab a hamburger or something. One of my incisions is still sore, but the doc says it isn't anything to worry about. I live alone except for half the week when my teen kids come to stay (joint custody), and I'm feeling like I don't have anyone to baby me. Don't really want company though, or even to talk on the phone, so what gives. ....guess I'm just hijacking this thread to throw a little pity party for myself.

Ok, so here's my story. I am 12 days out, and still on full liquids. Someone on here suggested to me that I use the broth from a can of chicken noodle Soup - I liked Campbell's Light - and just strain the broth into a mug and drink it. It tastes SO much better than plain broth, and my nutritionist was totally fine with that. She said it is also ok to put the soup into a blender and then strain it. I tried that, but it takes forever to go through the strainer. Something in the soup must just makes the broth taste better. I have about a half of a can a day, and found it so much better. I can't tolerate the look, smell, or taste of plain broth. Blecchhh! I went out to lunch and ordered a soup that had sort of a clear kind of broth, and just spooned the broth and left all the solids. It tasted wonderful! You can really do it with any kind of soup. I hope this helps you somewhat! Don't get discouraged - time passes and you will feel better every day. I was out shopping with my niece most of the day today, and not once was I tired or sore. And I'm not even 2 weeks post op yet. As soon as you see the scale going downward, you will be so happy! Keep your chin up, and you will be eating food before you know it, and this will all be just a distant memory!

I know how hard that first week is! In fact, I felt pretty awful for about a month. I read the forums and found out most people felt pretty much back to "normal" about 3 months post op- I agree! Just take it a day at a time, I promise you will be sooo much better in a few weeks. You will notice that each week gets better. I couldn't stomach the broth either, I made it by on shakes mostly. Now, I substitute one meal a day with an Ensure High Protein shake, milk chocolate flavor. I chill them in the fridge and they taste just like a chocolate malt, they aren't gritty and have no aftertaste. They also have 25g Protein, only 5g sugar and 210 calories. Wish I would have found them when I was on liquids only. At 17.5 weeks post op, I can honestly say it was so worth it. I wouldn't have said that 10 weeks ago. I feel so much better already and I am complimented all the time on how great I am doing even though I still have a long way to go. I am already loving this new life and it is getting better every day. You have some great days ahead of you, so just hang in there! You'll do great! :)

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
