SlowlybutSurely 73 Posted March 6, 2014 I'm 2 months out (03/10) and for the last week, I've been having pain when eating. I'm chewing my food but even mashed potatoes hurt when they hit my chest area. I mean pretty severe pain. I'm to the point that a couple of days I simply drank Protein Shakes since they only make me burp. I don't want to go without eating though because that will surely sabotage the little metabolism burning that I have left. I suffer with severe reflux but this is not related. This feels more like someone has literally kicked me in the chest when I swallow. Has anyone else experienced this type of pain?
BryBro63 410 Posted March 6, 2014 That sounds similar to what I was experiencing...I went to the surgeon and asked about this, and he said it's probably gas, so try to have 1 to 2 Gas-X pills before meals. Also, it's probably because you could be eating you meals too fast. I'm currently almost 6 weeks out, and I'm still trying to get used to eating more slowly. I followed this advice, and it seems to help me a lot. Please let me know how you make out!
Indigo1991 1,612 Posted March 6, 2014 Can I offer my usual advice - tiny bites and chew until there is just liquid in your mouth then swallow. Chew slowly and pause between bites as that should help with gas. It's still early days so don't hurry yourself. If it doesn't improve, speak to your doc.
