Hey guys, I'm Chelsea, am 22,

and I would really appreciate tips and tricks for after surgery. Today is my first day home. I'm a nurse, but I feel completely lost to all of this!

My problems are: gas, sore sore sore!, nausea.. Esp when waking up, and getting enough Fluid in.

I'm drinking my first Protein Shake now, with skim milk- any tips? I'm definitely having a rougher time than anticipated.

Hi Chelsea,

You will be sore for a bit, but just take it easy if you can. I found that putting an ice pack on my abdomen helped a bit. The nurses in the hospital suggested that. The gas pain will go away as well, walk around and move as much as you can tolerate as it will help move the gas outta there! Do not stress so much about the Fluid, just sip all the time. You will be able to increase it each day. I know it seems like you are drinking a swimming pool full of water! (at least it did for me).

The good news is that each day gets a little easier :) Hang in there and relax when you can. Good Luck to you!!

Congratulations! Yes, you will be a bit sore. I found that the pain pills were what made me nauseous. Once I stopped taking those, my nausea went away. I would rather have pain than nausea so I stopped within a few days of coming home from the hospital. But your mileage may vary. sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles really help!!!

Make your Protein Drink with Water, no skim milk, that will aid in gas and nausea. Its normal to be sore for a while. Take your bottle water to bed and sip al the time. Try sf pop sickle. Congrats on your surgery

Walk, walk, and walk some more :) the walking definitely helps. sugar free Popsicles are a life saver. I love the tropical ones. This too shall pass!!

Thanks guys. My stomach was sooo messed up last night after my skim milk shake. So I'm staying FAR from milk. Will try almond or coconut milk I suppose. For now... Mixing with Water only. I have a few shakes from the doc that can be mixed with water- fuzzy navel, Cappuccino, and tea flavored. So I'll still with that for now.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
