Vitamins are making me sick

I need some advice. I've been taking a Multi-Vitamin with Iron and Calcium as well as a B-12. My surgeon told me not to take the B12 pill but to get a sublingual B12 (under the tongue liquid). I got the sublingual and ever since I've been doing it, I get nauceous for at least a half hour after I take it. I started taking everything in the morning so I could take them with Breakfast. This morning I almost threw up it was so upsetting to my stomach. I had already eaten, but reached for a greek yogurt to see if it would help. It has, so I'm glad about that. Any advice from anyone who has experienced this?

Oh, and good news, I had my Vitamin levels checked Monday and everything is good - including the B vitamin. Apparently my thyroid level is at 2.7 - whatever that means (LOL) but my surgeon is happy. So the Vitamins must be working. Just need them to stop making me want to puke.

I would suggest taking your Vitamins right before bedtime. I have to take mine at night because my morning meds are counteracted by Vitamins. That way I sleep through any discomfort. I did have to find which vitamins wouldn't make me sick. the sublingual B12 is no problem for me as are the Biotin and Vitamin D. I still take viactiv Calcium which is a treat for me and I've found that Flintstones complete don't make me sick.

I take some things at night because they upset my stomach (iron) . Have you tried the sublingual B-12 pills? Anything in liquid form has always made me a little nauseaus.

I didn't know the sublingual B12 came in pill form. I'll definitely have to try it. I didn't have any problems with Vitamins before this sublingual liquid. Thanks for the advice!

When I was in Mexico I purchased the B12 injections. You don't need a script and can just get them at the pharmacy. I give my self an injection and it's a life saver.

I do not like to take the vitamins..... I can hardly stomach them. I know they are a important part of the program.........but ohhhhhhhhhhhh

There are so many multi Vitamins out there - chewables, pills, capsules, gummies - find out what exactly your surgeon / NUT want you to have in them, and then try all different kinds until you find one you can tolerate. I'll send you a few of the kind I take if you want, and maybe others will also.

Vitamins are so important. You gotta have your energy and hair!! In addition to B12 My doc said Centrum chewables, but I'm looking around for something a bit easier to go down.

Hi everybody pioneer Vitamins are very good( you can get them at whole foods) I try to stay away from anything that has Iron since you may have a hard time going to the bathroom .I also wouldn't recommend taking a Vitamin close to bedtime especially vitamin B 12 (that's for energy) I usually take Calcium and D vitamin in the evening. Help that helps. Good luck!!!

I don't enjoy taking my Vitamins either, but I make myself do it because I DO NOT WANT to end up deficient in anything. I'm only two months out; I've got to have bloodwork run before my three-month followup appointment to make sure I'm not deficient.

I second the recommendation for the sublingual B12 tablets. I get a cherry-flavored one from Wal-Mart and it's not bad.

What I really hate is crushing my Calcium tablets so I can take them. The resulting powder tastes like chalk.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions!!! I don't have problems wtih anything except the liquid sublingual B12. So, I think I'll take the suggestion of the sublingual tablet. If that doesn't work, I'll have to ask my surgeon for injections. I can't handle wanting to throw up every time I put that liquid under my tongue! Everything else seems to work and taking the Multivitamin in the morning really works since I take it with Breakfast to avoid any upset stomach from it. I also take a Fiber pill at the same time to avoid "poop" problems, lol!

For B12 there's also a nasal spray but it's prescription. for those of you who hate shots and Vitamins you can look into that. Plus whole foods and Vitamin shop has a great return policy on open vitamins so does Trader Joe's. Obviously it's not a lot but I hate wasting calories on vitamins.

This is what my doc says. Does anybody else do all this? I think it's way too much! Thank god I have the B12 injections just once a month for that.

1 Centrum chewable Multivitamin …2 per day ( you can also by some liquid Vitamins )

600 mg Chewable or Liquid calcium citrate … . 1 every 12 hrs

(please make sure you separate Calcium from Iron)

100 mg Iron Liquid ….once a day ......or if you prefer

100 mg Iron intramuscular Shot ,,,,,..once a month

1000 micrograms chewable or sublingual B12 …. once a day ( 1 pill every week ) or if you prefer

B-12 shots you can just have....1 shot every month

50 mg Zinc ...every 3rd day ( FOR hair LOSS )

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive).
