Can & Can'ts of Gastic sleeve

Recommended Posts

I am pretty sure that I am going from the lapband which failed me to the sleeve. And I am wondering if there are any foods that I CAN'T have....

Nope. I can eat anything. I have tried it all. Only thing my surgeon bans is carbonation. Have not tried that and don't intend to.

That said, after you are recovered, that is when the real work begins. I am actually a year out as of today! I have not barfed, slimed, dumped or had any adverse reactions whatsoever to anything. Just because I can eat it doesn't mean I should. I eat very healthy 80 % of the time. I eat better 15% of the time and I eat good about 5% and by good its anything goes.

Each surgeon has their own idea of what their patients can and can not consume post op. There are lots of folks who are told, no coffee, no bread, no alcohol, no this and no that. For me, it was just carbonation. I can live with that.

I am still a work in progress, I have realistically about 13 pounds to go. Even though my goal is 130, I don't think I will look good or feel my best at that weight. Progress has been very slow the last few months but that was to be expected.

I know you have heard that the sleeve is a tool and it is. It is a wonderful tool but it still takes a lot of hard work and permanent changes overall.

You can do and If you love your sleeve half as much a I do, it will be the best thing for your health you have ever made!

Best of luck to you! :)

In general, once the sleeve has healed and is matured, there is nothing that you can't have due to the sleeve - which i not to say that there are things to avoid in order to lose what you want to lose, and to maintain your loss once you get there. Nothing is going to get stuck in a stoma as can happen with an RNY or band, as the pyloric valve does its' natural restriction job.

There can always be some individual variations in results - some may become lactose intolerant, for instance, or tastes may change, but nothing that is inherently sleeve related.

coffee, nuts, and raw fruits and veggies are banned for me until I hit the 3 month mark. The only other things that are completely a no-no are carbonated beverages and drinking through a straw.

After 6 months, the options are pretty much limitless. There are risks related to developing a bezor (Google it) if you eat celery stalks or shredded coconut as they are quite fibrous and do not get broken down by stomach acids.

Myself, I dice my celery in Soups or stir fry and I have never like raw coconut, so ... not a problem for me. I am over two and a half years out and I have no restrictions except quantity.

It all depends on the person really things I were told wouldn’t sit well after the op like green Beans are fine.
So the things my sleeve hates and will not stand for me trying to eat so I puke hard right after always are:
eggs
Creamy stuff
Watermelon

There are things I choose not to eat like Pasta rice potatoes but I can if I want, them 3 things are the only things so far I found I have a nasty reaction too.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
