Surgeon has only done 26 sleeves

Recommended Posts

I recently found out that my surgeon has only done 26 sleeve operations. Do you think that is enough experience to trust?

If me no. I picked a doctor that was over 15 years bariatric surgery and all bariatric surgery not just sleve.

I personally wouldn't be comfortable with that. Mine has done over 1000 bariatric surgeries and 85% of them have been sleeves.

Seeing as you asked.......Nope.

I was nervous and selected a bariatric center of excellence. May be a non-issue, but it is something to think about. Best of luck to you!

In my opinion, no. I went with a Center of Excellence and a surgeon that has done 100's of weight loss surgeries.

I went with a board certified surgeon and a center of excellence too. If you're asking, you have a doubt somewhere in your head.

I work in surgery everyday. Even tho your surgeon has only done 26 sleeves has he done any other bariatric/general surgeries. And always remember hun he will have another doc with him if it's early in his career. I would allow him to operate on me. But in the end do what you're comfortable with not what everyone else says. If you feel confident then be confident in him. :-) best of luck

Thank you SliminDownThick. He actually only started doing any type of bariatric surgery last year. He works for the hospital where I am employed. Good advice.

Jaime_Boston I don't think I got it. I don't show to have any messages.

Hmm ok

My surgeon has done 22 sleeves and over 1000 lap bands. He has a 100% success rate so far with sleeves. Where it's considered the newer surgery, I actually found bariatric surgeons not having extensive experience. TRUST ME , I've been worried - but I'm far more concerned about my weight/health. He's had high success with the other bariatric surgeries. He's the head of the Surgical Weight Loss Specialist of Mass. Do your research and talk with some of his sleeve patients. Today was my pre op and he offered to connect me with some of his first patients.

Thanks Jaime_Boston. I am going to a support group tomorrow. There should be some of his patients there that have had the surgery. On the ones he has done, there have been no complications. Thank you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
