I'm having my surgery on wed 3/12. Going to get the last of the essentials this weekend.

Anyone care to share some of their "must haves", "life savers" they depended on for their first few weeks of post op.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

I feel like I'm going to forget something.

The first week it's broth only, Jello, flavor Water like MIO, I could have coffee too. Without coffee I don't think I would have survived lol. Good luck. Its not near as hard as it seems. You panic at first from losing the addiction but stay on this forum, it helps!

You will need Protein Shakes, whichever one you have decided you like. Applesauce, Soup, plain or vanilla Greek Yogurt. You do not need much, you will be shocked by how little you will be eating! Oh, and a Protein Powder, get some samples if you can. That way you can try several and see what you like. Your Vitamins are also important, so make sure you have those on hand. Good luck!!

Try different brands and flavors of the Protein Drink powder. But what also helped, after I made sure I had enough Protein in my day was sugar free Popsicles!!! And no sugar added applesauce and creamy Tomato Soup. Frankly not much else tastes very good and I'm just fine with that!!

Those are the 3 things I literally lived on for 2 weeks. Sugar free Popsicles, Tomato Soup, and apple sauce.

I had to use Ocean Spray Cranberry Lemonade flavoring in my Water. No other flavors I bought tasted good to me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
