tricare dosent have any time limits or anything required like that. so once i got into the surgeons office, they handed me a list of appointments i need (wellness center, nutrition, psych evaluation ect) and told me to finish those and get sig's and when i am done with those, to come back. They said it takes about a month to do the appointments. so i called and scheduled my appointments, the nutrition takes 4 weeks to complete, since i'll be finishing that in late April and they are currently scheduling 2 to 4 weeks out for the OR they think i'll be in the OR in late may early June. :) Im excited to get this started. i was hoping to get the nutrition and everything done this month but no appointments avalible till later in the month and next month.

Aw lucky for you! I'm happy as well! I hope these last couple of months go by quick! I'm trieng not to think about it too much but it's almost impossible! Also are you having any problems trieng not to gain weight through this process?

well technically my "process" started yesterday lol with my first surgeon appointment. so thats not an issue. but i continue to gain weight no matter what i do. when i was on bc it stopped but when i got off, i could eat nothing and workout 24/7 and still gain fat... it sucks but thats why im in this mess and why i am going through with the surgery.

Still have to do my EGD. Didn't have a 6 month diet. No psych evaluation, thanks to my psychiatrist writing a letter to the surgeon. That will save some time and money. Hoping for surgery in late May or early June. My next appointment is April 7. Good luck to everyone!!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
