Switching from band to sleeve..so scared

Recommended Posts

I have been banded for 2 plus years with little success so I am getting it removed March 24 and having the gastric sleeve done. I found the banding super painful ( and I've had 3 C-sections) so I am scared to go through it again. I feel like this is my last chance though, the breakthrough I have been needing. So I'm getting it done. I am too young to be this sick...I have fibromyalgia, sleep apnea and high blood pressure to name a few issues and Im only 31!!

Anyone else with fibro that had the gastric sleeve??

If the lapband has been painfull then by all means do what is right for for you! I know it can be scary I to had a revison done and it is the best surgery I have ever done for myself. Well that is not true, I did do it so I would have a better quality of life for me and my family!!! And after my surgery I knew it was the best thing for me, the pain in my side that made me feel like the baseball sticking out of my ribcage was gone instantly. I was walking the hallways in the hospital and felt better with in hours of my surgery. My surgeon came in and told me everything was ok, i had alot of scare tissue and they got it all done and the revision done as well. I wasnt sure if it was the morphine so I went to the bathroom mirror to double check and see if I had surgery!

The next day when i could wash up I did double checked again ;)

Good luck on your journey to a healthy new you!

Don't be scared. I just had my sleeve done 2 days ago, I'm sore which is to be expected, but it's not bad. The hardest part for me is trying not to gulp my water! ! Keep us posted!!

After my band I was super filled with gas and it was so painful. They thought I was having a heart attack. I will bring this up to my doc and hopefully it won't happen so bad this time. Thanks for the support.

One step at a time. I've had my band removed as it had eroded, piled on loads of weight and am due the sleeve on April 11 th.

Have a thorough chat with your surgeon and anaesthetist prior to surgery and try not to worry.........easier said than done, I know.

You are four operations up on the newbies and know what the positives are, think of those instead of the negatives....and treat this op as the first day of the rest of your life.

Good luck x

Please tell you checked with the doctor and you are on the road to feeling better! If you are adjusted properly that pain should be gone. Wishing you all the best.

It's been tough but I'm one week out. I didn't get the gas pains this time thankfully.

I am glad things went well. I had my sleeve 9 days ago and I too have fibromyalgia which is one of my main reasons for the surgery. I was so sick and tired of being sick and tired. I actually feel better. Not as much inflammation in my muscles. Less headaches and more energy. That is only after 9 days. I am so excited to start feeling like a normal person again

I haven't had any flare ups since the surgery which I thought I would. Hopefully this is the answer to our prayers.

Sometimes we just need to go have fun tho. I am really glad that you haven't had a glare up til now. I am having a mild one nog as bad as before surgery. I don't need to take any pain reliever. It us just tiring. Could be weather related

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
