My Dr had me on 3 weeks liquid/protein shakes, 3 weeks puréed food and 3 weeks soft food and then moved to regular food. Took longer to get lettuce. Not all Drs are the same. Was not eating very much when the 9 weeks had passed and had to gradually add food. Cottage cheese and avocados helped a lot.

Hi. I had my surgery on New Year's Eve, so I am about 11 weeks post op. I am currently on a normal diet. However, it doesn't much matter because I don't think about food in nearly the same way that I used to. For example, I have eaten out several times and boy is it a lot cheaper now! I usually order an add-on to my husband's dinner: like a lobster tail on his steak, a side of grilled shrimp or even a cup of Soup. I am completely satisfied with it and don't feel deprived.

One thing that does take some getting used to is NOT trying new things while out. In other words, you never know how the pouch will react to a new food, so it's better to have tried something before you are out and possibly in an uncomfortable situation. I still can't eat salad well.

I had two week intervals after surgery. I was on clear fluids in the hospital, full liquids for the first 2 weeks home, pureed, then soft and finally a regular diet. This seems to be a relatively common progression.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
