I had surgery Feb 21 and the swelling in my abdomen has finally gone down enough for me to feel my port. It actually freaked me out because I found it by accident and when I touched it, it hurt like heLL. What has been your experience with your port site?

Mine never hurt, but I could feel a small bump under the skin line. It's never bothered me the last 2 years.

I found my port for the first time when I reached inside the washing machine and I hit it - I thought I was gonna die! I was about 3 weeks out from surgery. As you lose weight you will notice it more.

I don't notice mine much -- no tenderness. Just after surgery, however, it was the largest incision and sore. I used an ice pack once or twice and that seemed to do the trick. Good luck as you continue to heal up!

My cat found mine first. She's a snuggler that likes to knead on my belly (make paws, make biscuits, mush...whatever you call it). I made her avoid my belly area for the first few weeks after surgery...for obvious reasons...and the first time I allowed her to settle in she found it. She started her process, stopped, looked at me with the strangest expression on her little kitty face, and then proceeded to do her thing. She still does it 5.5 months later. Each time she finds it she still acts surprised.

Cute! I sleep with a pillow on my stomach because my two cats like to sleep there, and jump there too, so I need the extra cushion for now.

I noticed my port right away. It never hurt but I am absolutley aware of it. These days, I not only can feel it, but see it as well. I mean I see the bump since my upper tummy area is much smaller than it used to be. Once in a while when I move or bend a certain way, it is uncomfortable but once I get out of that position, I'm fine.

i was so (obese) i had to ask my dr if he was sure he put mine in there.....i can see it now (just a slight outward blip).....i refer to it as my battle scar.. my winning over the war of super morbid obesity..

it was sore/tender for about a month (the larger port scar)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
