How much weight did you loose, before you could really notice a change in your apperance?

I had a lot to lose so even though I saw changes fairly quickly in terms of how my clothes fit, I couldn't really see a difference myself until probably around 60 pounds down.

I agree with the consensus here...it was about 50 pounds before anyone said anything and before I really noticed a difference... like that I needed a belt to keep my pants on!!! ;)

On the day I reached the 50 pound mark, I had two people say something about my weight loss. No one (other than the people that knew I had surgery) commented prior to that.

No one says anything to me. Only you lot on here.

As for when I noticed it? When I'd lost 43 lbs odd and went shopping for a pair of jeans. I was now in a UK 16 (US 12)

I practically needed to sit down I was so shocked!

I lost 90 pounds before anyone who comes into my bank began to comment. To be fair, I'm very short and work behind a very high counter. But once the comments started they just kept coming. And then the negative comments started - "Are you sick?" "I'm worried about you!" "I'm praying for you." "You're getting too skinny!" "What's wrong with you?" And the ever-popular 'Do you have cancer?'. I HATE working with the public. They think because they see you often they have the right to get personal. Some of them are caring - those are the ones who express concern in a kind, non-prying way and except your assurance that you are fine.

Sorry! It's my personal pet peeve. :-)

People around me started commenting on my weight change at about the 30 lb mark. I didn't see a difference in my appearance until I lost 100 lbs. Yes, I know I was in "new clothes" but they were the "old clothes" I wore before so to me I honestly didn't see a big change. I am now wearing "real new clothes" because I have never worn a size smaller than a 16 before I was married over 35 years ago. (granted it was a youth size 16 but I had never bought "adult size clothes" till I hit over 200 lbs)

My family are happy for me regarding my weight loss, I am still focused on loosing that last 39 lbs. I do finally see that I am smaller when I look in the mirror (though the sagging skin is not a pretty sight so I avoid looking at myself in my birthday suit too often)

I had lost 19 lbs when an aquaintance I hadnt seen in awhile said " have you lost weight ? Your face looks thinner !" Why, thankyouverymuch! I started at a size 18 , 225 lbs and am now a size 10, 160 lbs.

You are justifiably peeved. OMG people are stupid. I just.....I just can't even imagine a public so lacking in personal filters that they'd say such things.

I've lost 68 pounds (344 to 274) since 12/17. I have gone from a 30/32 to a loose 26. No one has noticed. ????

I am a newbie but most people started commenting at 35 lbs. My clothing size has went to a 22 to an 18. It does not help neither that I am still wearing my size 22 clothing because areas such as my thighs and buttocks were I feel that I have lost people are really noticing that my pants no longer look full.

I can't wait for spring and summer...I'm going to be able to shed the big sweatshirts and sweaters and start wearing shorts. People will notice then! LOL

Guess what? I bet they have noticed but just haven't said anything yet. It's a sensitive thing...saying something to a person who is losing weight. I know myself that I've waiting for a while before telling someone they look good. You don't want to infer that they did not look good when they were heavier. Give it some time....I promise they'll notice.

I LOVE this answer! Thank you for voicing this. While a small percentage of people say I'm looking good, a larger percentage don't say a thing at all...and I always wondered why. But you've hit the nail on the head. Thanks!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
