Oh great. I am so dreading this. I don't think there is any way around it but I've been told increasing Protein and taking Biotin supplements may help. Good luck to all of you and remember... it's a temporary situation. Or so they said.....

Me too..I'm at about 3 months. It started last week out of the blue. Clumps in my brush.. Hairs falling everywhere. I have well over 60 grams of Protein and take 10,000 of Biotin a day. This happened to me a few years ago big-time when I lost 45 pounds in 11 weeks and I was told by weight loss center it is from rapid weight loss and to be expected. Since my VSG, I have lost 35 pounds for which I'm happy, but I do not consider 35 pounds in three months rapid weight loss ( I'm stalled). The good news, it grew back even thicker. I'm not happy about this, but may be a small price to pay for the good health I'm working toward. I was hoping to escape Hair loss with the amount of protein I take, but unfortunately not. I'm trying to keep it all in perspective and be happy for the opportunity for VSG, safe and successful surgery and easy recovery, and I'm a size 10. I may be a size 10 with an itty bitty skinny ponytail....but a healthy size 10! Accentuate the positive!!!

I wasn't really worried about hair loss. I figured it would be like after you have a baby and you shed some hair. I was wrong...lol. I lost a TON of hair, and I have extremely thick hair, so for me to notice and care is a big deal. :-) I can tell you that right at about 5 months it slowed down. Now I'm not really losing any at all and I'm close to 6 months. I hear that it can take a good while to re-grow though. :-/

Several of my friends who have had VSG used Nioxin Shampoo prior to surgery and have had good luck with it. I talked with my stylist yesterday and she confirmed that it's a good idea. She had lost all her hair due illness and used nioxin to help it come back. It was about $30 for a liter bottle but I figured it's worth it if it will help. The shampoo I usually use isn't much cheaper than that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
