Hi all...I have scheduled surgery with Dr. G. Alvarez. I researched the heck out of surgeons and really think he is the best. I've been nervous but a fun nervous, ( like before a ride on a roller coaster :) . Here is the problem: I have all of a sudden become very sick. My weight has dropped 20 lbs in 1 month. (I was not placed on the preop diet because my BMI was overweight but not morbidly obese.) So this weight loss is not from the preop diet. This has never happened before. I am nauseated all the time. I thought maybe I'm nervous, but now I'm not sure. Today I went to the doctor and I had to get a hydration IV. I put off scheduling the tests my doctor suggested because I'm scheduled for this surgery I gave a 1k deposit, and took out a loan for this surgery. I will lose my deposit if I cancel. I will never be able to get the surgery if I don't do it now. I'm just really depressed and don't know what to do. Honestly I feel like I'm sick inside. something is wrong. I have terrible loose bowels. I just am so sad, I'm crying. I'm confused, sad and broke because I have put everything into this surgery. Even my airfare is not refundable! I'm heartsick.

Call the Dr immediately and talk him through your symptoms. I'm sure he will help you through this as best as he can. Stop panicking and speak to the Dr. Please let us know how you go

I know you must be terribly disappointed. But it does sound like your body is battling something. Best to be in good health when you have the surgery so you can be complication free. And have the smoothest possible recovery. Hang in there.

When was your flight scheduled for? Sometimes they will let you pay a fee and reschedule, even with a "non-transferable/non-refundable" ticket. And when did you book it? Some flight insurance policies can be added after the fact, as long as it's a certain time period before your travel. Then they may cover your ticket price if a doctor says you can't travel. I've only purchased the travel insurance once (despite flying dozens of other times) and that was for my trip for my sleeve surgery. Turns out it was a good gamble because my original flight was cancelled and I had to rebook and pay for an extra hotel night in San Diego. The insurance picked up the tab for those added expenses.

Sure hope they figure out what's wrong and you are feeling better soon.

EDIT Sorry, just saw your surgery was scheduled for Monday. Probably too late for travel insurance.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
