I'm pretty sure my sleeve just said " yea...uh, no...I don't think so!"

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I am 9 days post op......cruising right along on full liquids. No major problems other than the expected. The last couple of days have been good, no real gas......the normal, expected bowel movement..... So I got home a couple hours ago and used the bathroom, no problems

I am making a homeade turkeypot pie. I make a good roux and also had some very homeade turkey gravy in frig( think pudding at room temp......like I said, very homeade) I Am adding this gravy to the already made bechamel base. I decided to taste the sauce.....few mouthfuls...hmmmm good.

I had a few mouthfuls of this turkey gravy.....yummy....... Finished putting the pot pie together.......and then it hit me....... Oh lord........."please let me make it down my hallway" I head down the hallway which now seems hundreds of feet long....on some sort of weird straight leg duck walk......hang a couple rights into the bedroom and then the bathroom.(and of course turning requires bending the legs which brings butt flinching to a new level).....I'm happy to say I made it.....but OMG .....it was, shall I say, an explosive situation.

Was this my sleeve telling me it is in charge and not to even think about trying to send it something it's not ready for? Or just some weird coincidence? It just seems tough to imagine that from the few mouthfuls of sauce and gravy to the relief were only 10-15 minutes tops......

I actually had that reaction to a tiny bit of squash Soup that was puréed into liquid. I am 8 days post op. It tasted wonderful but the after effects really got my attention! Keep on doing your post op diet and no cheating. It only hurts your success. By the way, I laughed right out loud at your description. Thanks for that!

Listen to the sleeve. So now I'm going to give you some tough love. WTH were you thinking, tasting that rich sauce 9 days out? Stick to your nutritional plan :(

Seriously, we all want you to succeed. You will have to give up tasting your cooking for a while. And you need to take care of yourself so you don't end up in the hospital. The baby sleeve needs babying. Don't overwhelm it.

OK, I'm done lecturing now :)

The seasoning will get you every time...Take it easy on the sleeve...gradually introduce new foods, seasoning and textures to it as recommended by your doctor...I still can't handle pepper...I love spicy food but that is a big no no for me now...The only time I have thrown up has been twice because of spicy food...Glad you made it!!!

Well, I had some sugar free cheesecake pudding last night....and some cream of chicken yesterday....and they were all side by side in frig and generally the same consistency......so I figured eh......why not a few teaspoons......

same thing happened to me about a week out--it was after some chicken stock-it was clear but evidently, my GI tract was NOT happy...sadly, I didn't make it in time but I did learn a valuable lesson. Now I keep an "emergency kit" of sorts in my car in the event I eat something new at a restaurant-or if something at home hits me later...I am 3 weeks out but I keep that kit with me :)

:P

It's hard, I know. My anniversary was a couple of weeks after surgery last year and we went away for a romantic weekend. My dear hubby kept trying to feed me all sorts of things like cheese Soups (not Campbell's, ones with real cream) and creamed spinach and stuff like that. It's a wonder I survived that weekend LOL.

I totally laughed out loud at your description! Not laughing AT you, but laughing WITH you because the exact same thing has happened to me. You're just sitting there and WHAMMO!!! I would agree that it was your sleeve and digestive system's ways of telling you "not yet". Thanks for the laugh!

You have to use your imagination: imagine that Isopure (or whatever) tastes like that turkey pot pie roux/gravy. mmmm, yum, yum. (I know...it's not the same!!)

It's hard, but be assured, it gets better. Hang in there, init...

Same reaction here with pureed cauliflower. Miss Tummy immediately rejected it, and within 15 minutes had purged my system like a colonic. It will be a looooong time before I try any of the cruciferous vegetables from the cabbage family.

My sleeve doesn’t like cream in anything or eggs at all!

Oddly today I had a pre made muller rice pot apple I ate it and what do you know 5 mins later I puked up JUST the creamy sauce not a speck of the rice or the apple just the creamy sauce lol

It was like B please stop trying to make me hold that stuff I do not like it so get out of here!

I only got 2 on Saturday as a little treat so guess who wont be eating the other one lol

Nd yeah puke pots lol £1 plastic jug was my friend for a long long time still is here and there but mainly I manage to get to the bathroom or if there is a bin right beside me I puke into it lol

The odd time I have been ill its snuck up on me with like a cup of tea that just comes up in a explosion.

Don’t know about anyone else but general illness being sick is not like it was before it happens in a blink of a eye no mouth watering or pain to pre puking just blugh!

Lucky its not like normal puke really lol

Oh no, I've read someone had a puréed cauliflower problem and an egg problem. I planned on making these staples in my diet!,,, oh well, I will have to wait to see how it plays out.

I know what you mean! The tummy dictates all! And when it rejects something it doesn't take long to let you know. Unfortunately, I've not been as lucky to make it to the 'powder room' in time. Luckily, I was at home. Whew! Disaster avoided.....this time!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
