Recommended Posts

I am about 5 days post op and SO TIRED!!! I know this is mostly my fault since I came back to work yesterday. Im doing ok with my protien and Water, but im just so tired. No energy at all. I might need to cut this week short so I can get more rest. How long til people start feeling human again?

It's funny you just posted this. I just posted a thread entitled, "THIS is how the first 4 weeks go..." It's a bit tongue in cheek, but it gives a pretty good idea of the progression I just experienced (I am one month out today).

And yes, you will feel really totally normal again. For me, it was 4 weeks and I'm guessing the average is 3-6 weeks.

It takes about 2-4 weeks before you have energy again, I was totally ok though. I had surgery on a Friday I was back in the swing of things on that Tuesday. I flew home that Monday and I was totally ok,

But I remember not being able to run around with the kids like I used to for about 2 weeks.

Hang in there. It gets way better!

Took me a good month after surgery to get past the exhaustion.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
