Doctors/Hospitals in Atlanta area

Recommended Posts

Hey All! My name is Erin. I have VSG in January of 2013. I had a very good experience with an excellent team in California. I have since moved back to Atlanta with my husband who is considering the surgery. Does anyone have any good recommendations for doctors/hospitals in the area.

Thanks so much!!!!

Erin

Hi Erin! Welcome to the ATL! I had my VSG the same time as you and I go to Buckhead Bariatrics (near Piedmont hospital) and see Dr. Procter. He also practices with Dr. McGill. Both are excellent! Not sure what part of town you're in so let me know if you have a specific area and I can help you find someone!

Hey Tina! Thanks for this. So we live in Newnan, however we will drive wherever we need to to have a good surgery team. I had such a great experience so I know that it pays to have a good team of doctors.

My husband used Dr Dennis Smith. The program you go through is very informative. Amazing doctor and team!!!!

hey Erin, I used Dr Kevin McGill, he's with Buckhead Bartiatrics also. AMAZING surgeon. the office staff is great. The dietitician with the office is Karen, she's great also. Had my surgery at Piedmont hospital. GREAT staff. that should say a lot coming from a veteran ICU nurse.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
