Anyone get an ulcer post vsg?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 2/10 and any little thing I eat burns like heartburn n I'm getting a terrible pain in my middle upper back. I'm on omperazole from my dr and I take it religiously but it's not helping. I eat very small amounts and slowly and it still kills to go down and I sit uncomfortably after everything I eat or drink I'm freaking that I'm gonna end up with an ulcer from all the reflux.... Has anyone gone throught that?

I've always had mild reflux but it's been severe since my sleeve surgery. Once I had to sip Water every 5 minutes or I would burn and cough uncontrollably but Zegrid helped that little episode which was the worst I'd ever experienced. I'm pretty sure I will end up with an ulcer or a damaged esophagus simply because every single morning that I wake up and quite often throughout the day my stomach hurts so badly that I want to cry. It even wakes me up during the night. I had a doctor tell me many years ago that I should always chew on antacids throughout the day to help keep the acid down. I never tried it until after the sleeve and it definitely helps a lot and makes a difference with my stomach pains and reflux severity.

I will keep you updated as soon as I get back tomorrow. I am currently taking an acid reducer.

Update

MD put me on a high dose of acid reducer (gave me a RX) to see if that helps. He also stated that he remembers my opening being narrower. So I'm back on puréed for another week since I can tolerate my shakes just fine. I follow up in 3 weeks unless I have additional issues.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
