Ok, I had my surgery February 18 and no matter what I eat it hurts. Has anyone tried to replace meals with liquids? If so please tell me some that worked.

Congrats! I had my sleeve on the 20th and it's been an epic success. That Thursday was the surgery and I felt 10yrs younger by that Sunday. I stayed on Protein Shakes as instructed until last Friday. I then started ricotta cheese, then eggs, today tuna salad. No meat, no veggies, no fruit, no mixed foods. Cleveland Clinic wanted me to isolate foods to identify what went down well and what didn't. They broke it into phases. I've been fine- taking everything super-slow and not drinking 30min before and after. I still do Protein shakes daily, but use sugar free syrups and extracts to jazz them up. Is that what you're doing as well? Good luck!

Are you supposed to be eating so soon after your surgery? I was on liquids for three weeks before progressing to puréed foods and then soft foods and then regular foods. I was three weeks in each stage, so I wasn't really eating until about 10 weeks post surgery. Eating after just two weeks seems really fast. What does your surgeon recommend?

In answer to your question, however, yes--you can go back to liquids after being on solids. I always kick back to full liquids for a few days when I hit a plateau.

I was told to progress to soft foods. I tried eating a egg and a half piece of baked fish.

Also, I have been eating mashed potatoes, soupy grits and oatmeal, cream of Soup and other similar foods.

You said it hurts? in what way? Today was my first day progressing from liquids to purees.. I tried pureed black bean Soup and after two spoonfuls i felt a tightness in my chest and my stomach was gurgling... I guess that was the STOP SIGN .. Is that a similar feeling your having?

I've felt that too. Maybe I should stick to the cream of Soups for a while. I don't really have problems with those

I have heard that you should not eat oatmeal! Also, just liquids and pureed foods only. I would go back to basics with Protein shakes and only do the creamy Soups, no meats or veggies in them.

Also, I have been eating mashed potatoes, soupy grits and oatmeal, cream of Soup and other similar foods.

I was told NO mashed potatoes, grits (aka polenta) or oats until stage 4 solid food stage as they are hard to digest and hard on the new tummy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
