The lap band and your (changing) stomach size

Recommended Posts

I've wondered about this question a bit, so I thought I'd ask it here. When I used to be overweight 20 years ago, diet and exercise brought me down about 70 lbs, and at that point, I couldn't eat what I used to eat--full size pizzas, alfredo sauce, and other rich stuff upset my stomach and no longer appealed to me. I realized after the fact that I had naturally readjusted my stomach size.

So I was wondering--does the same happen with LapBand? Since you're being granted an instant minimized appetite, does the stomach below it actually decrease in size over time. Maybe a question for a doctor, but I thought I'd ask....

Mine sure has. Started the 2nd month after surgery. Now, even if I eat slider foods I can only eat 40% of what I once ate.

For example, I can still eat steak, tenderloin steak. 4-6 oz is the max I can eat before the signals start waving the white flag in my face. Before being banded I could eat a 24 oz porterhouse. I'd be so full I was nauseated but for some stupid reason it was comforting(sick huh?)

You have to remember your stomach is a muscle. It will stretch when needed and then when not getting the ginormous amounts we were used to eating it does shrink back to normal size.

i had the plication along with the lap band and it made my stomach (smaller) and i can only eat so much before i get a full feeling and hence my sign to stop...going past that feeling gives me discomfort.....i could eat a lot before surgery and now its kewl to see a cup or a cup and a half of food does the trick...

I cant totally relate to this. I sometimes have anxiety eating out because i'm afraid the portions wont make me full enough. i'm sure they would satisfy me, but I want to feel full when I leave a restaurant. I also hate going out to eat with people I don't know as well, cause then I feel like I need to eat less, therefore, not getting as full.
