I'm very new to the process. I've had my first appointment and working on a nice little check list. I'm undecided as to the type of surgery I want, and worried about the "shakes" phase because I hate "milky" like drinks. Any advice, suggestions, or ideas are appreciated.

As far as 'shakes' go..there are a million on the market, you don't have to drink a 'milky' type Protein shake. Go to Amazon, or any health site and type in non-whey/dairy Liquid Protein. its quite over whelming actually. I am Lactose intolerant. I don't have a specific type or brand, I try them all..lol..they each have different benefits, I like 'LivingFuel' supergreens, just to mention one.

Much luck on your surgery decision.

unjury makes a Protein laden chicken broth. 22 grams or so per 8oz. serving. I enjoyed having something savory to mix it up with the shakes. There are a bunch of non milky alternatives. Bariatric Advantage, Health wise and Syntrx all make alternatives to the milk based Protein Shakes. Which ever surgery you decide on, good luck!!

LOL..I didn't worry about it. My own post surgery protocol was liquids for 4 days and then mushies after that. So, if I didn't have Protein for a few days I didn't think it would matter all that much. Neither did my doc or nutritionist.

I ate a lot of egg drop Soup, pureed beef pot roast Soups and some others so I never really suffered. Not much pain and not all that hungry the first 30 days.

I mostly mixed my powdered drinks with Water. You can also use your favorite low calorie juice.< /p>

I mixed Syntrax varieties or unjury strawberry with Crystal Lite Lemonade or sugar free cranberry/grape juice. Also, there is Unjury unflavored Protein powder that you can put in anything. The Unjury chocolate Splendor can be mixed with a sugar free cocoa packet (and I put Lite Cool Whip in mine, too). There is always the Unjury chicken Soup variety, too. So, not everything has to be thick and milky.

Oh, I wanted to add this. Sometimes the whey Protein powders clump up, so I started using my strainer. It made a big difference not swallowing clumps of whey. There is a 140 degree limit with whey Protein Powder, but it clumps up in any temperature of liquid anyway.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
