I four weeks post surgery. A friend has invited us to her birthday party this weekend. This has caused a great deal of anxiety for me. I am slow to change and all the changes so far have been for the good but not easy. I really was not thinking of having to deal with a party so soon. I would be more comfortable if it was after I was on my last stage of eating where i get to have small portions of normal food items.

Well this friend would understand if I do not go but i really like her and wish i could be there but there will be a lot of people, and food, and CAKE!!!! Oh my is that my weak point.

So i wanted to ask other here, when did you go to your first party and how did deal with it? Thank you all for your support.

Anyone can go to a party. Its whether you go to a party and can stay strong.

Rule of thumb so early out?

If it is nutritionally bad for you? Don't eat it - it'll make you feel awful.

Try and identify the 'better' options around the table. Or better still, eat before you go to avoid having to eat whilst you're there, drink something with no carbonation, avoid alcohol and enjoy the company and surroundings.

Doesn't always have to be about the food, so make the company, surroundings and music your focus instead. If it gets tough? Leave early.

Your friend will be happy that you showed and you'll be happy that you socialised but managed to stay strong.

A party is not an interview with the firing squad! Well, it shouldn't be!

Best of luck :D

Revs said it well. A party is about the people (or it should be....lots of us here are learning that a lot of events aren't actually just opportunities to eat). Eat before you go. Sip on something appropriate during the party (maybe stick a water bottle or zero calorie flavored water in your bag before you go in case there are are only poor drink choices available). Good luck and have a good time.

I went to my nieces graduation about four weeks out. My suggestion? Eat before you go. If the host likes people to bring things and you're cleared for some foods, bring some kind of party food you can eat. Shrimp cocktail or crab cocktail are good options. Don't sit by the food. Chat up family and friends. And if they know, be prepared for lots of questions, some quite silly. One of my friends told me "I thought you had weight loss surgery" I could tell by the look on her face she thought it meant having a lot of fat cut off in the operating room. We had a good laugh over that!

Knowing that early out sweets of any kind made me sick made it easy for me. I have since had to completely adjust how I Celebrate. A celebration isn't about food, or eating something that makes me feel bad or feel bad about myself. Now I can do more of what I really love to do at parties. .. talk.. I mean visit lol

I can’t remember my first party honestly still had mobility issues for a while after so I didn’t “go out” a lot.
But even if it was just to visit family or whatever I took 1-2 shakes with me if nothing else to sip on throughout my time out.
Everyone is soooooo used to me carrying them in my purse now its funny even at my nieces baby shower it was in a pub and we were told “no outside drinks” my best friend is breast feeding so point blank said she is bringing her big bottle of Water she needs it and my sister point blank said they can’t tell you, you can’t have that its medical so F them!
lol
my little sister will kill you if you try and tell me I can’t have my shake in a public place it cracks me up!
when I visit my bff and the bubba I take a shake 1-2 bananas sometimes other little tupperware of food like from dinner the night before etc so I am always good to go if and when I need it.
You can take a shake and some Soup or whatever your eating in little pots or see whats there if any of it can be nibbled on.
Don’t feel pressure and overwhelmed by social situations because of the sleeve or being so close out, your gonna have to bite the bullet at some point might as well do it now!
Its not gonna be half as bad as you think maybe a few questions and how are yous over and over again from people who know and are interested but again also better to get that out the way now chill and have a good time with your friends!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
