I've been seeing a therapist to deal with my body image issues. I've lost 117 lbs. in just over a year and I get tons of comments. I see the negatives though, not the positives. I have alot of excess skin and thank goodness no one sees me naked. I have a turkey neck and hate looking at myself in the mirror. If I could, I'd have a facelift tomorrow. I so understand your conflicting feelings...yes I look better but the compliments also make me feel like what was wrong with me before? I was just heavier...not meaner or nastier. I was a nice person before and a nice person now. I'm hoping people start to get used to my new size and then just stop mentioning it. Good luck to you.

It's a weird world, isn't it? Our own body image and negative self-talk for so many years really makes us feel weird when we start to look thinner. I say if you're comfortable sharing, share. If not, tell them how you lost it--you restricted unnecessary calories and you started to move. No one needs to know about the sleeve if you don't care to share. No one on my FB knows, except an old acquaintance who also was sleeved!

Well you need to share a pic of you here too!! Just remember they are trying to make you feel good, but some people you really dont care if they notice or not. So I would say adjust who can see your new photos on FB, ie: make them your photos for friends you know and trust.

I'm sure you knew you would get those type questions when you posted the picture so it shouldn't have been a surprise. People often ask those questions because they too want to lose weight and are struggling and are all seeking some big "secret" to achieving their weight loss goals. I do understand though that most people don't want to post that they had WLS on the FB page. I don't think those people meant any harm in asking you those types of questions. Maybe you should explore more your reaction to their comments.

My reaction I think was wanting to keep it private from people who don't even talk to me on a regular basis or been on my Facebook for years and never spoke before..lol..there are people on my face book who know about the surgery who knew well enough to keep it to themselves as well so im grateful for those friends who stick with a "keep up the good work!"

And their reaction was a surprise..to me I look very similar to pre-op..so I wasn't expecting the weight loss inquiries..maybe I need a reality check! LOL

I think we all go through this when we start loosing a significant amount of weight. I personally feel the same, just can't eat as much and kicked old unhealthy habits to the curve. It took me a while to really stare at myself in the mirror and see a change. I am down 85 pounds and I still see myself as I did before I lost the weight. We all have that "AHHA" moments and they all come at different stages and multiple times. I have had TONS of people who I talk to on a regular basis and people I don't ask me questions about how I am loosing the weight and so on. I write a blog, I tell them to read my blog and come back with questions. There are only certain questions that get to me, and usually I blow a head gasket when they are asked. My blog is my therapist now days instead of people.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
