mirabb2002 14 Posted March 3, 2014 Hi everyone, can anyone share their experience for psych eval. I'm scheduled to do mines on Wednesday. Everything is done, this is the last item to be completed for insurance approval. I'm nervous and anxious. Is this normal, what to expect or anything I can do. Also how long is the eval and how long before you get your results. What's the process. Any advice will help. Wish me luck.
BryBro63 410 Posted March 3, 2014 Basically, what your psych is looking for is that you will be able to mentally handle the physical changes which are about to happen to you. They will ask if you are ready for the changes ahead, if you're doing the WLS for the right reasons and you're not being coerced to do it or not, and they will want to know if you have any type of support system with friends and/or family. The Q&A process is generally pretty harmless...nothing to really worry about. Some are different than others, but the only thing I personally had to talk to the most about was why my other weight loss methods didn't work for me. As far as how long it takes, they say you need 2 sessions. I ended up having one 'double session', and the results were sent to my surgeon within 2 days. I wish you the very best...I'm sure you'll do great!!! 2 mirabb2002 and Miss Mac reacted to this
Miss Mac 6,262 Posted March 3, 2014 My psych evaluation was an interview that lasted about a half hour, addressing the issues presented by BryBro 63. My psychologist was sweet and non-judgmental and made the process painless. I wish you good luck and good health. 1 mirabb2002 reacted to this
magtart 603 Posted March 3, 2014 I had to take a really long test of true or false question. Some were so stupid I actually snapped a pic of the page to show my hubby when I got home. Afterwards, I talked to the psychologist for maybe 15 min. It was just like chatting with a friend. That was it, no big deal at all. 1 mirabb2002 reacted to this
Cupcake 801 Posted March 3, 2014 My appointment consisted of questions by the psych as well as true and false questions they are looking to see if you can handle the surgery , the changes that may come with the surgery as well as your support system and how you would handle everyday life. Just be honest and be yourself. 1 mirabb2002 reacted to this
mirabb2002 14 Posted March 3, 2014 THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!! This has helped me ease my nerves. This whole process has me on pins and needles. I know I'm close to the finish line and getting geared up for the real thing. I want everything to go without a hitch. Thank you all so much for your support. I love this app and the people in it. This has such a great thing to know and feel the love and support from everyone that is in the same boat or the advice from those that have gone though it. Thank you once again. I'm all done with my pre op and even have the pre op class scheduled all that is pending is the eval and approval. Much love to all 1 BryBro63 reacted to this
audefacere 45 Posted March 4, 2014 I'm thinking of meeting with a therapist throughout the process (this is in addition to my psych eval). Since it is the biggest life change in my life, I think it would be good to work through my relationship with food with a professional so that not only my body changes but also my mentality. Has anyone else done this as well?
LWren 7 Posted March 5, 2014 I had an eating disorder as a teen so I was a little freaked out going into. But it was no big deal, they gave me three test and we talked a little. Good luck!!
