Shingles? Possibly?

Recommended Posts

Started having this pain on my left side in rib cage area several days ago. Gets better and worse later in day and them a day or so ago sensitive to touch/kinda burning etc. And another spot on my back - same region. Very touch sensitive and pain.

I've read up on it ;) and a co worker has had for several months. It seems it could be beginning shingles pain before rash. I've looked at other things like pancreas, esophagus, rib cage Etc

The first night I almost went to emergency room them seemed to resolve itself and not but just a twinge for a day or two now back with a vengeance today and yesterday.

Yes. I'll go to Dr but wondering of anyone has had shingles and experienced similar. (And it's Sleeting heavily here!). Thanks in advance

My DH had shingles exactly as you describe it. He has stubborn man syndrome. Heard of it? Any way, it got so his shirt couldn't touch his skin. Then he went. His became so painful they Rx him a narcotic. They will give antivirals. Go sooner rather than later to reduce the intensity/duration of the virus. HTH. good luck.

I get shingles 2-3 times a year for the last 30 years. If you are feeling it in more than one spot you could be in for a big outbreak. The blisters come out in little roundish clusters. You should see a doctor before the blisters erupt, if at all possible.

Georgia, see the Dr. SAP. If it's shingles, the sooner they treat it, the better. If it's not shingles, get the vaccine to protect yourself down the road.

Maybe you can call and get a prescription for the shingles med over the phone. I don't think it would hurt you if you don't have shingles.

I've had shingles twice (right side on my rib cage and the left side of my head) and it's not something I ever want to go through again!

If it is shingles, the sooner you start on anti-virals the better. Delay in starting can cause the shingles to be worse and that can cause long-term issues with nerve pain. I didn't start the anti-virals for 3+ days the first time and ended up with a lot more long term pain than the second time when I started the day after.

Also, you can get the vaccine after you've had shingles. It will help prevent a re-occurrence. I wish someone had told me that after the first time.

Is it an annual vaccine? I'm only in my mid-40's, but had shingles as a child, and I wonder if that doesn't make me more prone to it as I get older.

It is a one time vaccine. Are you sure it was not chicken pox you had as a child? Do discuss this with your doctor. I have a friend who is never sick, and shingles put her in bed 2 weeks. You can google information too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
