What is realistic weight loss with the sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I ask bc my surgeon really didn't give me a goal number. She just said I would get to 225 with little effort. My primary are doc wants me to land in the 130s. I'm 5'6 and started at 314. I was sleeved on 2-3 and my goal is

137. How realistic is it for me to get to 137? I am cleared to start cardio on Monday (can't wait). Plz tell me what you have done to lose the weight??

Dairy fairy,

I'm heading back to the gym on Monday and will ride the recumbent bike for about an hour. I'm going to try to burn 500 calories between the bike, eliptical & walking. What does op mean?

Sarahjane, I weighed 135 when I was 19 (I'm 39 now) and my PCP says its a good landing point. I will get out of the 200s on this journey. I'm currently at 274 and on a stall

You've lost 40 pounds in one month! That's great!!

I am 5' 6"

SW: 253

CW: 153

Age: 54

Surgery: 5/31/13 (9 months out)

My goal is 150 (3 more pounds) because at 5' 6" that puts me at a healthy normal BMI of 24.9

Wags, WOW good for you, you aren't even at the year mark, that's encouraging to this newbie :) what have you done to lose? How many calories a day are you eating? Do you still focus on Protein? I was very fortunate my body responded well to the full liquids following surgery, so I stayed on them for a week longer, hoping to lose more weight but instead I stalled :( so waiting for this stall to end. I would be thrilled to get to 150 (what I weighed on my wedding day 13yrs ago)

I'm 5'2 and my doc set my goal as 180. Although I'd like to get to 140... i don't even think I could be 130 (which is the highest "recommended" weight for my height) without looking like a complete twig.

I guess I have a weight "I'd like to be" but really, I just want to get to a weight that I'm healthy, feel good, and am comfortable with. :)

Thanks Zoumommy!!

At nine months I typically eat between 800 - 900 per day. Yes! I definitely focus on Protein - at least 60 grams per day. And carbs, I TRY to get less than 50 grams per day, but I'm happy with less than 80. My weight loss has slowed tremendously, but that's ok because I am so close. MOST of your weight loss will be in the first 6-12 months so just keep that in mind.

I do not really exercise. Just try to walk my dog some days when it's warm. Ride my bike to get iced tea (also when it's warm). I took a belly dance class a couple months ago just for fun.

But I know myself and I know I will not sustain an exercise program so I had to do this loss with a plan for focusing on eating less rather than exercising.

I am NOT perfect! I occasionally have treats and now that it's NCAA March Madness basketball season we have lots of get-togethers at our house. So I'm kind of in a "maintenance" mode for the next month or so which means my calories will be above 800-900. I just plan for that and weigh daily to keep track.

The average weight loss is 60% of anyones excess weight.

Some people do less, some people more.

Wags,

Who do you root for, for March Madness? I went to the University of Kentucky, was there when Pitino was there, basketball is a religion in that state, so I'm a Kentucky girl at heart :)

Haha! It's kind of a religion where I'm from too! Yours is with UK, ours is with KU! Kansas Jayhawks! I also live near Wichita, so now we have Wichita State to cheer for!! What a year it has been :-)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
