getting scared now

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I posted last night about a little mishap I had transitioning to soft foods which involved something that was too spicey and my body wasn't ready for. For the past 20 hours I have a burning sensation not in my stomach but it feels like my intestines. The stomach is on my left side and this pain is just to the right of my belly button. It really burns like I have a match inside my abdomen. It hurts when I move. anyone felt this before?

This sounds like a call to the doctor. It could be gallbladder, something more serious, or not serious at all. Whichever it is, burning pain is not a normal side effect. Please call and please keep us posted.

I agree with the above...I'd make a call. Burning sensations are not normal.

My doctor gets SO annoyed when you call him. They already treat me like crap. Last time I was at the office I left crying because his assistant threatened me with a feeding tube until I could "prove" that I could eat or drink. It was a nightmare. I'm sure you guys are right though. I'm debating just going to an urgent care just to make sure it's not super serious

So sad they treat you that way! Maybe go to the ER and skip the primary doc.

If you’re ok with milk drink some of that take a stomach acid pill yes even if it’s a extra one 1 extra wont hurt you and will help settle the acid if the heat and spice has kicked it up a few notches.

Drink some peppermint tea or warm peppermint oil and Water combi if you have it (I was given peppermint oil they mixed with water in hospital and a bottle to take home to settle my stomach) and stick to bland non spicy food for 24 hours.

I can’t do highly spicy or heat well I couldn’t close to being out that whole ouch ugh ouch thing happened to me the burning the pain the ut oh feeling so I never went too spicy or hot again.

If I make a curry now I do the earthy kind over spicy hot kind

What idiots how can you prove you can eat and drink when they have a tube stuck down your throat doing it for you!

I get so annoyed with rude medical staff who use a list of scare tactics on us, we are not children speak to us like adults be frank but don’t try and put the fear of god into us and scare us with or else crap to do what you want!

I wish...The other hospital here does not have a bariatric program. It's really frustrating to me that I can be scared off by the people I paid thousands of dollars to take care of me. I felt this pain right out of surgery and I described it to the PA who told me it was gas (with the most attitude she could muster) I described it as a pulling pain that's developed more into burning after that chilli. Does anyone know if there is an eternal stitch down there that could be irritated? Thanks for the kind words and sharing your own experiences it's making me feel so much better

In general it’s staples you can have stitches as reinforcement I did but its not just a stitch line no.
Gas can seem like burning pain, food can make you feel the burning pain some of my reactions to food include being clammy all of a sudden like a cold sticky wave of it, burning sensation, waves of pain, hard breathing, breaking out into a sweat, feeling dizzy, dry heaving, hiccups, burping and actual puking.
If you really are concerned go to ER and tell them you had the op what your feeling and see if they have someone on call who can deal with it if they don’t have a specialist they can still check you over and put your mind at ease whatever the outcome is.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
